Station II Summer Camp

The Bloomfield Recreation Department is again offering a summer program for children with
special needs called STATION II. The programming will have two (2) different levels, one will
be a self-contained program and the other will follow an inclusion model. Our camp
schedules are designed to peak a variety of interests and enhance social skills. Dont let
your child miss the opportunity to make new friends, have fun and make lasting childhood
memories. If interested please register at the Recreation Department as soon as possible!

Camp Dates:
Session 1 June 26th July 7th (off on July 4th)
Session 2- July 10th July 21st
Session 3- July 24th August 4th

STATION II INCLUSION (Ages 4-14) The campers will be with an age appropriate group at
Civic Center or Watsessing. Parents are requested to sign up for this program if their children
can work and play at least 50% of the time within the group setting and need a shadow
counselor for the rest of the time. Cost: $245 per session (2 weeks)

STATION II SELF CONTAINED This program will offer the same schedule as the other
program but with a larger staff to camper ratio and with adaptive activities. For first time
campers, it is an excellent opportunity to learn the routine of the program and feel
comfortable in a play environment. The program will be offered to all age groups with
campers grouped according to age. Each program will look to provide some mainstream
activities with age appropriate peers. This program runs from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at
Watsessing ONLY. Cost: $175 per session (2 weeks)

Canteen and Horizons are both social programs for the special needs community
that run on Friday nights from October to May and follow the school calendar.

The Canteen program had another fun filled year! The objective of the Canteen program is to create an
environment for students to feel comfortable being themselves and to socialize with others. The students
enjoyed the variety of activities that we participated in. While in our home base at the Carteret School we
play basketball, karaoke, board games and Xbox Connect. We also went on adventures to the NY Aquarium,
the Circle of Friends holiday dance and out to eat. We already cant wait to start back up again in the fall!

The Horizons group recently finished another wonderful year together! The group participated in a
variety of activities such as going to the movies, seeing plays, bowling, pizza & paint nights, Monster
Mini-golf and trying out a bunch of restaurants. In addition the group saw plays at the Paper Mill
Playhouse, won money at the Meadowlands Racetrack and cheered on the Bloomfield Special Olympics
basketball team. We have a great time together and are already looking forward to more fun in the fall!
