‘The United Way of Horry County Boatd of Directors has announced its 2010.
2011 Campaign goal of $1,275,000, This decision was made after two months
of reviewing each organization that applied to United Way for funding by the
Agency Allocations Committee Volunteers, This Committee evaluated the
‘organizations Financial statements, services provided in the county and the
importance ofthese services. The money raised will impact the programs of
United Way of Horry County's 43 Community Partners. “The panels of
‘oluateers onthe allocation committee were hard at work this year reviewing
agencies and deciding on the most pressing needs in our community that are in
need of funding,” states Dovg White, Community Investment Chairman.
Along with the allocation amounts forthe 2011 agencies, the board of directors
sel the goal with a 12% allowance for uncollected pledges; United Way cannot
allocate funds that are not collected. Normally a 7% allowance (our 37 year
average) is calculated into the goal; however, du to the eurrent economic
conditions the lst two years have been considerably higher. The
administration and campaign budgets total 17% meaning 83% of every dollar
collected is allocated tothe approved services in 2011
Last year, United Way of Horry County was notable to fund new services due
to the economy. This year, the board and allocations committee devided (0 use
‘money from an initiative grant to Fund seven new agencies in 2011, The
initiative grant was established by the board of directors through a gift from an
anonymous donor's estate. This grant is specified for new programs that are
providing needed serviees in our community
In Homy County last yeas, 126,883 individualfamily cases were provided
through basic needs, 5,107 people received help towards self-slficieney,
12,160 families were given health, strength and safety and 6,943 youth were
given assistance towards a successful adulthood. That's why itis especially
‘important that people inthe community choose to give a charitable donation to
United Way.
With the goal et and Community Partners selected, United Way's Campaign
‘Volunteers are actively preparing to kick-off this year's Campaiga in
September. The United Way Pacesetter Campaign has kicked off and currently
