Job and the so-called “Gospel” of
Prosperity
Beginning in the mid-1990’s, a particular brand of
Christianity became popular among Americans. This
brand is commonly known as the “prosperity Gospel.”
The claims of the “prosperity Gospel” are that God
wants His people to enjoy the best things in this life and
avoid as much pain as possible.

While it is true that God wants good things for His

followers, those “good things” often do not come in
terms of the “good” that the world might chase after.
His best gifts are things like “peace,” “righteousness,”
and “integrity”. These are certainly values in our
culture, but they are rarely the values presented as gifts
by “prosperity Gospel” preachers.

God understand us and what we need better than what

we even understand ourselves much of the time. While
having a greater salary or more possessions may seem
to be the things that we are chasing after, what we are
chasing in reality are things like security, identity, and
meaning. God provides us with rich gifts in the areas
that we need them most, all we need to is look beyond
the false gods we create to the gifts given to us through
the cross of Jesus Christ.
Please don’t throw this away. If you’re not going to use it, leave it for
someone else to use.
