Project #1 - Surreal Composite Image Student Name:_________________________________________

Project:
Two composite images will be created using similar or the same imagery to address and explore the concepts of
surrealism. These surreal composite images will be created using multiple layers (at least 10 layers for each
image). These images should work together in some way (concept and idea – objects, color etc) and feed off each
other. You will write a brief for this project describing what you are addressing in this work.

Technical issues for each image:


You must use layer(clipping) masks on at least 8 layers.
You must use blending modes on at least 3 layers.
You must save and load at least two selections
You must use at least one filter.

Grade-sheet

Create a folder with your name within the Surreal folder in the class folder
Name your images with your last name and a number e.g. williams1.jpg

Submit TIF layered version of each image into folder with your name (e.g. williams1.tif) 10
Submit JPEG flattened file of original size file (e.g.williams1.jpg) 10
Submit folder with all Original Images (name folder Images) 10
Submit brief describing imagery and surreal concepts you will explore (name file brief) 10

Students will be evaluated for completing the following:


Care:
Set up each document at specified size and resolution. (300 ppi – at least 8x10”) 10
Made and named at least 10 image layers 10
Used variety of selection tools (including color range, magic wand, lasso etc) 10
Use blending mode on at least 3 layers 10
Made Layer Masks to hide image elements on at least 8 layers. 10
Save at least two selections. 10
Made clean edged selections by using masks. 10
Used at least one filter on one layer 10
Addressed and developed Surrealism through 2 images which work together 10

Design and Composition:


Are principles of design and composition used to make the visual elements work well?

Is the work free from mistakes that distract from the unity and effectiveness of the10
