 Nigeria became an independent nation on Oct 1st, 1960.

This month, we
celebrated our motherland Nigeria at 50. The celebration was almost pointless
when we thought about the educational system.

 Although Nigerians aged below 35 constitute more than 70 percent of the

nation’s population, the percentage of Nigerians that get a sound education is
demeaning. To worsen matters, our educational system delivered a 79.4%
failure rate in the National Examination Council(NECO).

 There is need for an improved higher education system and it must start with
us paying attention to our preschool, elementary and secondary school. These
areas are the building blocks of society's educational foundation and lack of a
good education would contribute to social ills including crime and prostitution.

 Education not only opens the mind, it expands it. For this reason, we as a
society must invest in our youths by educating them. Can they be educated
without school supplies?
 A large percentage of Nigerian children are
passionate about getting an education but
lack basic school supplies i.e. note books,
pencils, erasers and more. Project Back to
School is a distinct project that is scheduled
to hold in December 2010 in three (3) cities
in Nigeria - Ajegunle, Makoko & Bere (Dec
15 – 18) . Our aim is to reach out to at least
50 primary school students in each city. It is
expected that through the provision of
adequate stationeries, students will be
motivated to stay in school and strive for a
better tomorrow.
 There are two major goals for the “Back to School”
project and specific objectives within each of the
goals.
 To reduce illiteracy rates in the locations chosen for
this project
› To provide at least 50 students with enough supplies to
last them for the 2011 school year.
› To encourage the complementary process of reading and
writing.
 To effectively use volunteers as a major factor in
emphasizing the need to be educated in order to
become a valued asset to our nation.
› To provide a mini training session where college students
share school experiences with the younger students.
 There are two different clientele groups
for this project.
 The first and primary clientele are the
young, talented, underprivileged students
who will receive the school supplies.
 The second clientele are the individuals
who will participate in the project as
volunteers.
 Project Director – Responsible for overseeing project
development, budget, establishing and maintaining links
with donators.
 Center Coordinator - Responsible for developing working
relationships with formal and informal community
leaders where project will take place.
 Volunteer Coordinator - Responsible for recruiting people
that will donate supplies; distribute supplies.
 Project Evaluator – Responsible for keeping record of the
amount of supplies received and the amount distributed.

 A book drive - give people the

opportunity to donate as many school
supplies as possible.
 School supplies would be distributed by
volunteers in an open space.
 Notebooks
 Pencils
