Qualifications details:
1997 Obtained her Ph.D in Media Studies from Panteion University, Dept of
Media Studies, Athens. Title of dissertation “The representations of Greece in
ethnographic films made by foreigners: 1960-1980”.
1991-1995 Studied filmmaking at the National Film & TV School (UK) specializing on
Documentary. Diploma in documentary direction.
1989-1991 Studied Cinema studies and Ethnographic Film at the University of New
York in New York, USA. MA degree in Cinema Studies and Certificate in
Ethnographic film.
1989 Studied documentary for three months in VARAN, Ateliers de realization
Documentaire in Paris. Certificate.
1981-1987 Studied Political Science at the University of Athens. BA in Political Science.

Scholarships:
1989 Scholarship from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs for studying in
Ecole VARAN.
1994 Scholarship from the British council for the academic year 1994-1995 for
studying at the National Film & TV School.
1991 Scholarship from NYU for the academic year 1990-1991.

Teaching:
Since January 2002 she has been teaching as a Lecturer at the Department of Theatre Studies
at the University of Athens the following courses: Introduction to Film History and Film
Theory, Gender representation in Film, The Representation of the “Other” in Film,
Introduction to the History of Greek Film, Fear and Film. Before 2002 she taught Film theory
courses as a visiting professor at the University of Thessaloniki, Department of Philosophy
(1998-9), Panteion University, Athens (2000-2001) and New York College, Athens (2001).

(Centre Mediterraneen de la Communication Audiovisuelle) for the series
“Chroniques Mediterraneennes”.
1998 Directed and produced a series of eight 28΄ documentaries for the National
Greek Television called Inner spaces, about people who live in institutions,
work in factories or live in families. My aim was to show how people find
ways of resistance from their social milieu through their imaginary.
1995-1997 Directed several documentaries for the National Greek Television
documentary series Paraskinio.

Awards:
2005 1st prize for short film for the film To Kouti at “Cinema du Reel”.
2004 1st prize for short film for the film To Kouti at the Thessaloniki documentary
film festival.
2001 3rd prize for the film Akropolis at “See docs”, International Documentary
Festival, Dubrovnik.
2000 Distinction from the Greek Directors Guild at the Kalamata documentary
festival, Kalamata, Greece, for the film Prison leave.
1996 1st prize for short film at the Drama short film festival for the film Letters
from Albatross. Distinction from the Greek Center of Cinematography.
1995 1st prize for short film from the Greek Ministry of Culture for the film
Athene. Distinction from the Greek Center of Cinematography.
