Basic Stances

These are basic stances taught in Ninjutsu (Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu). The images are rough
examples of each kamae.

Ichimonji No Kamae – Level Figure One Stance

Jumonji No Kamae – Level Figure Ten Stance


Hicho No Kamae – Flying Bird Stance

Kosei No Kamae – Attacking Stance


Doko No Kamae – Angry Tiger Stance

Hoko No Kamae – Angry Bear Stance


Hira No Kamae – Flat/Open Stance

Shizen No Kamae – Natural Stance


Basic Moves
Daken-taijutsu- striking movements

Ju-taijutsu – grappling movements

Kamae – stance

Kata – example

Tsuki – Punch or Thrust

Ken – Kick (can also mean fist)

Soku Yaku Ken – Stomp Kick

Uke – to recieve

Ukemi – to recieve the ground (roll)

Uke Nagashi – to recieve and parry (block)

Nage – throw

Dori – catch

Fists
Fudoken – “Immovable Fist” – simple clenched fist

Shuto – bladed hand – formed by forming a 90 degree angle with your hand.

Happaken – Using the palm of the hand to strike.

Boshiken – thumb stab

Shi-shi ken – pinky strike

Shitanken- 3 fingered stab (index, middle, and ring fingers

Shikanken – Extended knuckle punch, used primarly on the throat.

Kongoken – thumb knuckle strike – similiar position to boshi ken, except using knuckle to
strike
Shakoken – claw strike

Shukiken – elbow strike

Misc.
Ura – inside/inward

Omote – outside/outward

Hon – Primary

Gyaku – reverse (twist)

Muso – unique

Musha – warrior

Kudaki – crush

Ori – break

Nagare – flow

Waza – flow (of techniques)

Ne Waza – ground techniques

Sutemi – (self) sacrifice

Sutemi Waza – techniques involving sacrificing injury in order to defeat opponent

Sakki – (deadly) intent

Oni – Demon

Basic Phrases
Domo Arogato Gozaimasu – Thank you (very much)

Onegashimas - Please (teach me)

Hai - Yes ( can also be used as uh-huh)

Iie - No
Dame - Bad

Dozo – Please

Sumimasen – Excuse Me

Gomen Nasai – forgive me (please)

Doitashimashite – Your Welcome

Matte – Stop/Wait

Nani?- What?

Mou Ichido Gozaimasu – One more time (please)
