Minutes of the Comenius Members Meeting

held in Slovenia on 10th November 2010

1. Opening Remarks

CA welcomed those present. All countries checked application form details and amended
any inaccuracies.

2. Introductions

a. (CA) Queen Margaret Primary School is located in the south-west of Britain.


The school has 145 children, age range 4-11 years old. On the same site is a
children’s centre which deals with all aspects of family life and offers a support
network to local families.
b. (CL) Has many different children from different cultures. 36 different
languages are spoken by the children. The school has 240 pupils and 32 staff. The
Swedish children are a minority.
c. (LR) The pupils come from different ethnic backgrounds. The school has 460
pupils, age ranges from 6-14 years old and 40 staff.
d. (AMG) There are a cluster of schools There are 5 classes, 100 children, ages
6-11 years old. Some of the children are from different countries, particularly North
Africa. The school has less than 100 children and 12 teachers. The school day is
from 0800 until 1600.
e. (PI) There are 705 pupils and 42 teachers. The majority of children are
Spanish, there are not many children from other countries.
f (TP) The school is located in Stavraipoli a small town in a mountainous area.
The school was founded in 1928, there are six classes and the school has 60 pupils
and 14 staff.

3. Aims and Objectives of the Project

(CA) Read out the aims and objectives of the project to those present, the aims being:

 
a Nurture a feeling of belonging.
b Dispel stereotypes.
c Value Diversity.
d Pupils from all backgrounds to learn from each other without having to travel.
e Include families and community.
f Learn other languages.
g Pupils to acquire knowledge with own school and other schools.
h Improve ICT communications,
i Nurture Social competences
j Teach pupils that a healthy lifestyle is important regardless of where they live.

4. Activities

Questionnaires will be completed by the children at the beginning and the end of the project
to identify knowledge of pupils. The results will be compared and analysed at the beginning
and the end of the current project. Age of children to complete the questionnaire are 9 and
10 year olds. Results will be compared on a percentage basis. The results will be sent to
(PI) who will accumulate information and send data to (LJ) who will distribute to members.

Countries will exchange a DVD of children playing traditional games with instructions of how
to play them. DVD’s should be exchanged by the 1st February 2011 to enable children to
learn other countries games. Members will bring photographs/DVD’s to exchange at the
next meeting in Sweden.

5. Distribution of Tasks

Redistribution of tasks required due to Lithuania, Malta and Turkey not joining this Comenius
project. Greece will take control of the Comenius website. Web address is http://comenius-

6. Next Meeting

The next meeting will be in Sweden, 8th–10th March 2011. Members will arrive on 7th March
and leave on 11th March 2011. If possible Greece will host a visit in May 2011 with a
provision for change if necessary, to be discussed at the next meeting.

7. European Shared Treasure (EST)

Each county has to contribute to EST on the website. It is part of the expectation to receive
funding. Members will need to contact their national agencies to clarify the situation. To
access the website a special code is required which members can get from their national
agencies.

8. Any Other Business

Sweden brought some letters from their children with a view to start a pen pal scheme
between the children; these were distributed between members to set up writing schemes.
