Your child’s journey towards a life-long love of singing begins with the Kettle Moraine Children’s Choir! The purpose of
KMCC is to create a community of young vocalists, enriching their lives and the lives of their families and community through

Kettle Moraine Youth String Orchestra

Presented by The Terri and Verne Holoubek Family Foundation
Plant the seed of music as we explore the joys of listening, singing,
and moving to music. Interact with your child one-on-one or
bring the whole family. Students will engage in age appropriate
games and activities that encourage positive social interaction.

for youth string players to grow to their ultimate potential. Students are introduced to a
variety of music and musical styles. The expectation that all students push themselves is
essential to reaching musical excellence as an ensemble. Presto Strings is open to grades
5-8, currently enrolled in school orchestra or study with a private instructor, entering Suzuki
Book 2 or equivalent. Bravura Strings is for students entering Suzuki Book 3 or higher
and is admitted by audition selection only. KMYSO’s smaller ensemble sizes allow for a

NEW! Acting Classes with ACT

Academy at Civic Theatre (ACT) is the educational arm of the Waukesha Civic Theatre (WCT). The Schauer Center has partnered with
WCT to offer classes in improvisation, comedy, character development, and acting. ACT strives to heighten students sense of cultural
literacy through flexing their creative muscle, hoping they will become future patrons, donors, volunteers, and ambassadors for the arts.

FREE: Incredible Improv Workshop • Ages: 10-18
Explore the adventure of improvisation through theater games,
group exercises, and scene work. No experience needed.
Learn the skills you need to be an actor. Voice, movement and
character exercises will help to build focus and confidence as
you perform a short scene for the final class. It’s a fun way
to learn to work with a cast. In Acting Up 2, continue to
build on your acting skills through new exercises and scenes.
No experience needed for either class.
Adult Acting Up
Same as Acting Up, but geared for adult actors looking to begin
or expanding their acting skills.
Audition Technique
A great tool for the serious young actor. Learn everything from
the basics of audition etiquette to monologue selection to the
different types of auditions you may encounter. Students will
memorize and perform a short monologue for the final class.
Create-a-Play
Each session, through fun games and imagination exercises,
students create their very own new and original characters.
But that’s only half the fun! These characters will then be
written into an original, world premiere play that the students
will perform on the last day of class! The only requirement is
an active imagination!
Incredible Improv
Learn the hilarious art of improvisation through fun games and
outrageous scenes. Students will develop and strengthen their
own self-confidence, communication skills and social skills.
No experience is needed, just a willingness to have fun.

Adult Enrichment/Open Art Studio

Whether you’re just beginning or you need a “jump start” to get
going again, further develop your creativity and enjoy the company of
other self-motivated artists in a master teacher guided studio. Receive
critique of your present work and learn how to implement stronger
use of design and composition principles. Choose your subject and
medium, and bring your own supplies. All 2D and 3D media welcome.
Painting
Session 1: Thursdays, January 13-February 17
Session 2: Thursdays, March 3-April 7

Oil paints, watercolors, and acrylics come to life on paper
or canvas and express a variety of emotions. Students will
create paintings, gain familiarity with their medium, and focus
on expressing the subject they are creating. Challenging the
experienced painter, yet providing the building blocks for the new
painter! Supplies additional; list will be provided upon registration.

This basket is 15’’ across x 4” tall. It features a
heart shaped base and an open weave bottom.

Hearth Basket

This basket is 10” x 18” and is 12” to the top
of the handle. Attend session 1 or 2 to learn

This basket is 12” in diameter and 9” tall. It
features a double woven base and shaker tape

their toddler. Watch and assist your artist in unique projects

explore the wonders of shape, line, texture, form, and design.

Hands in Clay

Kids have a unique connection to clay. Starting early from mud
pies to sand castles, kids explore shape, texture, and form
molded from earth. This four week course will allow students
to develop their connection to clay through exploration
of various hand-building techniques. Students will create,
glaze, and finish pinch pots, coil pots, and slab pieces that are
functional, sculptural, or both. No experience needed.
NEW! Hartford Spring Break Day Camp
Art From Many Hands
Monday-Tuesday, April 18-19 • 12:30-2:30 pm

Travel the world with art. Students will learn about cultures and
art from around the world. Projects will be based on the different
cultures and their art. From our own back yard to China.

Missoula Children’s Theatre
The Wizard of Oz: April 11-16
A special one-week intensive drama workshop for children in grades K5-12
that culminates in two public performances. A fully staged and costumed
musical adaptation of The Wizard of Oz will showcase the talents of
50+ local youth. Those cast will rehearse for the week and perform

Schauer School of Dance

The Schauer School of Dance was founded in January 2007
and focuses on building students’ dance abilities through the
development of a strong technical foundation. The annual

spring recital will be Saturday, May 21 at 2:00 & 7:00 pm in the
Ruth A. Knoll Theater. There is a $25 recital fee per student.
Students also have the opportunity to perform and take
master classes with visiting companies that are part of the
Schauer Center’s Mainstage Series. For the Winter/Spring
session, students can work with Buckets & Tap Shoes in a tap
workshop. See the Outreach Activities section for details.

Community School of the Arts Policies
Multiple Class/Sibling Discount: If registering for
more than one class or enrolling more than one family
member in a session, you are eligible for a 10% discount.
Participants must pay the FULL tuition fee for the class with
the highest tuition and are entitled to a 10% discount on
additional tuitions. One-day workshops under $40 are NOT
subject to 10% multiple class/sibling discounts.
Registration Fee: A registration fee of $10 per student,
per semester applies when enrolling in CSA programs
14 days prior to program’s start date. A $15 LATE
registration fee per student, per semester applies when
enrolling less than 14 days prior to program’s start date.
Registration fee does not apply for programs with a tuition
fee of $40 or less. Maximum of four registration fees per
family during any given semester. This fee is non-refundable
except in cases where the class is cancelled. “Friends” of the
Schauer Center are exempt from registration fees.
NEW! Residents living within the boundaries of the West Bend
School District are also exempt from a registration fee due to
support from the West Bend Community Foundation.
Deadline for Registration: It is suggested that students
register at least two weeks prior to the start date for any
given program. A deadline of one week must be adhered to.
Enrollment levels are evaluated at this time and class will be
cancelled if minimum enrollment isn’t met.
Refund Policy: Notification of withdrawal and request for
refunds must be submitted in writing to the Schauer Center.
A 50% refund of the tuition in the form of a gift certificate will be
in effect through the second class/rehearsal. After the second
class, NO REFUNDS will be offered.

Payment Plans: Payment plans may be arranged with
the Schauer Center for any class with a tuition fee of $100 or
more. However, a minimum of 1/4 of the tuition fee must be
paid prior to the start of the first class/rehearsal. Payment
plans must be paid with a credit or debit card.
An arrangement application must be completed and turned
into the Schauer Center prior to the first day of class.
Tuition Assistance: Financial assistance may be available
to eligible students for classes or activities. Tuition assistance
is based on financial need. For an application or more
information, call 262-670-0560, ext. 204.
Class Size: All CSA classes carry a minimum/maximum
class size condition that determines if the class will be
offered. Classes not meeting the minimum enrollment level
will not be offered. Maximum levels are determined by
classroom space or instructor/student ratios.
Student Absences: Classes or rehearsals missed by
a student due to illness, scheduling conflicts or any other
reason are not guaranteed a make-up class. Please notify the
Schauer Center if you or your child will be missing class and
to discuss available make-up options.
Teacher Absence: If a teacher is unable to teach a class/
rehearsal, the Schauer Center reserves the right to have a
qualified professional substitute teach the class or reschedule
the class/rehearsal. In either case all students would be
informed of the change.
Waiting Area Policy: Due to numerous activities,
event set-up, and valuable artwork on display, the Schauer
Center prohibits parents from waiting in the Gallery (second
floor) after dropping children off for CSA class(es).
If a parent chooses to stay on premises for the duration of a
child’s class, the Schauer Center requests that parents wait
on the lower lobby level.

Education & Inspiration Fund
The Schauer Center’s Education & Inspiration Fund is
available to provide need-based financial aid to prospective
students to help overcome barriers to enrollment in
Schauer Center classes or activities.
The E&I Fund is a self-sustaining fund independent of the
Schauer Center’s operating budget. Interested persons
or organizations can make donations through the Schauer
Center to support the growth and development of this
educational resource. For information contact our

Youth Exhibit Featuring
Schauer Community School of the Arts Artwork
As part of its 10 th Anniversary Season, the Schauer Center
is hosting an exhibit showcasing art that has been created in
the Community School of the Arts. The exhibit is open to all
youth and adult students that have created original artwork
that was started in an art class at the Schauer Center.
Entries will be juried and meritorious works will be displayed.

Wisconsin Regional Art Program

The Wisconsin Regional Arts Program (WRAP) is open to
non-professional artists over 16 years of age. Entries will
be juried and meritorious works will be displayed in a state
exhibit in Fall 2011 at UW-Madison, where artwork is eligible
for cash awards.
