1023 12/28 18:38 Carroll St. Park Slope Street not plowed Carroll St., between 6th and 7th Avenues has not been plowed at all. No fire truck or
ambulance can get up this block. Thus, any emergency could prove deadly. I did call
311, which is overwhelmed; therefore, I wrote to 311 on line.

Tonight, a sanitation truck got stuck on Carroll between 5th and 6th and had to be
towed. Now that the snow has hardened, snow removal is more difficult than it would
have been had the trucks started, appropriately, on Monday morning -- Dep't of
Sanitation started too late in Bklyn. (Manhattan is clear, of course.) In addition, the
stuck truck was the only one we saw besides one on 7th Ave. Where are the others?
On Monday, several trucks were parked between 2d and 3d Avenues around 14th
Street. Where were the drivers, who would have been picking up our garbage anyway?

I do hope that, besides our getting plowed tonight (Tuesday), you will investigate why the
Comm'r of Sanitation has failed this boro and why the head supervisor in Brooklyn has
the job he has.

there is much needed access to the school and our building for fuel and provisions for
our elderly tenants. Fortunately there have been no need for an emergency vehicle, but
I fear that the inaccessabilty to our homes can be of a catastrophic proportion because
of the cul de sac location'of our building. In addition at the end of our block there is an
entrance to the "F" Train subway ,"Fort Hamilton" station, that is blocked by the drifted
snow. And there is limited egress to the street. This is a tragedy waiting to happen.

1033 12/28 18:44 Carroll Street Columbia Street not plowed There is an abandoned car at the beginning of our street since the beginning of the
Waterfront storm so our street has never been plowed. Snow is thigh deep. The bus stop is not
cleared and the B61 bus has not been running for 2 days. I waited for it during rush
hour both yesterday and today to no avail.
I called 311 to have the car towed but they said they only tow cars on highways, bridges
and tunnels. They told me to call a tow company but I said that I would have to pay for it
and I find that unacceptable. The owner of the car was long gone. The 311 operator
then tried to patch me through to 911 on Monday and was put on hold and then
disconnected 4-5 times and couldn't get through. I told them I would call 911 directly
which I tried for another 45 minutes. When I finally got through to get the car towed on
our street so a plow could get down it they told me they don't handle that. I asked why
they handled that when I was double parked last year for 30 minutes and not now but
they didn't know. They said the sanitation dept was responsible for calling in a tow for

They need to get shovelers to clear out the intersections and a plow down the service

Someone (or agency) must be held accountable for this mess!

1036 12/28 18:50 13 Street Park Slope Street not plowed I live on 13th Street, between 5 & 6th Avenue. I have lived in this House since 1984. On
2nd Ave. and 13th Street is a Sanitation Garage. In all my 26 years this is the first time
that 13th Street has not been plowed on the first day. I am 81 years old and I am
concerned that Emegency Vehicles will not be able to come on the block. The time is
now 7:45PM and it is Dec. 28, 2010. I tryed for two days to get connected to 311 and
held on at one point for 45 minutes and had to hang up because no one answered.
When I did get a live person today I was advised that no complaints were being
accepted and no complaint numbers were being given out.

1042 12/28 18:58 6th St Park Slope Street not plowed HI Brad: Just going on the record letting you know our block has not been plowed. For
most of us, it doesn't matter -- I don't have to move my car until Jan. 1, but I'd like the
snow gone by then so I can get out. I'm sure that His Highness, Mayor Bloomberg, does
not have us as a priority, and I'm sure you're doing what you can, but I just figured I'd
put or block on the record. Thanks for your concern.

1053 12/28 19:14 Carroll Street Park Slope Street not plowed Mr Lander:

Please know I completely understand you are not in charge of snow removal in NYC;
however I have to write you to say that I find the situation in Brooklyn a disgrace.

There are only one or two streets with a "light" plowing (read: barely passable, even
around Methodist hospital) that I have seen from a short walk, ranging from Union to 9th
Street, 4th to 7th Avenue. What's the deal? My father in Poughkeepsie has even heard
of the poor state of affairs Brooklyn is in. Why is it that Manhattan is clear and we are
not?

Something needs to be done - and not in an oversight meeting on January 10th - why
the hell isn't someone doing something now? The situation is ridiculous. When will we
see snow removal on my street?

Thank You,

completely impassable, so no one has gotten stuck trying to drive down it. It is usually
very busy with hospital traffic, including Access-A-Rides, car services, ambulettes, and
ambulances. Many hospital employees park on my block.

This does not just SEEM like the slowest, most inadequate response to a snow
emergency in NYC in the last 50 years. It IS the slowest, most woefully inadequate
response in my very sharp memory. All city officials are blathering about Sanitation's
best effort. This is such obvious bullshit as to be insulting to all citizens, not to mention
the Fifth Estate. Pictures of idle snowplows sitting in Sanitation garages around the city
put the lie to the Mayor's and the Sanitation Commissioner's words.

This is a deliberate work slowdown in response to the recent layoffs announced by the
Mayor. So far, I have seen no effort to get confirmations or denials of such an obvious con

1094 12/28 20:18 PPW Windsor Terrace Sidewalk not cleared this is an overall comment/complaint: Sidewalks have narrow paths shoveled, but it is
still very hard to walk anywhere--esp at street crossings where you have to hike over a
snow drift. I think the uproar over unplowed side streets is ridiculous; it is much more
crucial to clear sidewalks so that people can walk to services & transportation (really no
one in this city really needs a car).

Additionally, the cars abandoned/parked in the street, such as along PPW (beside the

cars need to be tickete.

Prospect Park West in a snow storm.
Its reduced to a very slow moving one lane backing traffic to grand army circle. The
snow is plowed to the right, cloging the right lane. Another good reason to get rid of bike
lane. Is this a work stopage to protest no over time pay from the Mayor for the sanitation

unplowed and impassable. Unlike Carroll Gardens, Downtown, Park Slope, Ft. Greene
and other less suburban parts of Brooklyn that HAVE been plowed, most of us in this
neighborhood are unable to work or shop or go the places we need to without access to
our cars and streets. I've lived here for 12 years, and have never seen this slow a
response, even in worse conditions. Why is Kensington being treated like 2nd class
citizens by the DSNY? I've seen plows running up and down already-cleared Caton and
McDonald Avenues and Ocean Parkway doing nothing but dumping salt on roads that
are essentially bare, yet none of them turn up the various unplowed numbered side
streets (including Albemarle Road, which also remains uncleared), so this is not a lack
of resources. Why are we being ignored? Is there any legal action that can be taken
against the DSNY for failing to provide us with equal service? Can your office use city
funds to hire a private snow removal service? We're trapped here and need to get out!

1183 12/29 9:00 2nd Street Park Slope Street not plowed My winter vacation has been ruined because I remain snowbound by the City's failure to
plow in a reasonably timely manner. At the very least, I'd like to know when the side
streets in Park Slope -- including 2nd Street on which I live -- will be plowed. The street
remains untouched by any City plow. My neighbors and I are beyond frustrated with the
situation (there's hardly a plow in sight) and the Mayor's insensitive attitude.

1186 12/29 9:17 Sackett St Carroll Gardens Subway entrance We, like so many other blocks, were plowed once (so I've been told) since the snow
began on Sunday. Subsequently, calls have been made to 311 and neighbors on these
two blocks of Sackett (Bond to Smith) have taken it upon themselves to maneuver out of
their homes, first, and parking spaces later.
Rumors abound- that this is a sanitation retaliation for the 400 lay-offs in Nov, etc.
Meanwhile, folks have been struggling mightily with snow removal. We haven't called in
the cameras yet, but that time is fast approaching. There is no reason this 20" of snow
should have brought street traffic to a stop- we've had worse and done better. Aside
from self-serving shovling (see President St at Smith, where neighbors on either side of
the corner (President/Smith) shoveled driveways into the middle of President St, there
hasn't been any NYC clean up. Folks driving the wrong way (going north on
Hoyt)streets are accidents waiting to happen.
What gives?

1189 12/29 9:36 5 st Park Slope Street not plowed This is the 4 day that my block, 5 street bet 8 ave and PPW along with other side streets
in Park Slope remain blocked to traffic and impassable. It's a major challenge to cross
all intersections, making it dangerous for elderly people to do essential things like food
shopping and going to the drugstore.

I've lived in Park Slope since 1974 and I've never seen such delayed response in 36
years. My property taxes had gone up every year but services seem to go the other
way. It's outrageous that the sanitation dep. was not prepared for this, everyone was
talking about the blizzard coming. They didn't pick up the garbage on Saturday so how
busy could they have been and what was the reason they were not ready to do their job
on Sunday, Monday and Tues.

If this is indicative of what we can expect during the 2011 winter, I am really worried
about the future of the city.

hospitals and cannot even get off my block. I complained twice to 311 already. My worst
fears came true when I expressed to the operator that access to my street was
impossible for emergency vehicles. Last night an FDNY ambulance became stuck on
1st Street bet 7th and 8th ave after responding to a call-I hope the patient survived.
This not the worst storm ever. The storm this year in Feb 2010 was worse and the
response was overwelmingly better. There are other issues at play here. The Mayor as
usual is in his dream world when he comments on the fact that things are running as
usual i.e. the theaters are open. Who cares that the theaters are open when an
ambulance cannot get down an ordinary citizen's street

1217 12/29 12:34 ditmas avenue Kensington Abandoned car In general: 1) Why were cars allowed on the streets during the blizzard and what gave
them the right to endanger all the rest of us by abandoning said cars? 2)Why were
buses allowed to keep running, without chains, and then be abandoned all over the
streets? 3)Where were the plows? The first plow my area saw was 3:17AM Wednesday
- and it did not plow Ditmas but backed out after seeing the abandoned car at E.8th on
Ditmas. 4)Where were the police, or even the National Guard, to keep cars from turning
down east - west streets which were blocked, meeting in the middle and having horrific
confrontations about who should back out so that the others could get down the one
"lane" available? In 40 years of tax-paying and living in this area, I have never felt so

worse by the city's inaction. Can you help us?

cleared so we can walk about and enter and exit buses safely. Thank you for your help.

1258 12/30 11:33 10th Street Park Slope Some questions Hi Brad

I have some questions I would like you to ask at the Counsel meeting with the City
Administration:

1) Why were any bike lanes cleared before all the city street?

2) It took three days to plow 10th Street, between 6th & 7th Avenue, they showed up on
Wednesday afternoon at about 2:00pm, why?

3) Then, with many streets still unplowed, they came up the block 6 times, with plows
and twice with salters within two hours, when blacktop was visible after the second pass
with the plows...were was the coordination?

1261 12/30 20:00 East 3rd Street Kensington Sidewalk not cleared The laundramat @ the corner of Ditmas Ave. and East 3rd Street has a dangerous
buildup of packed snow that is turning into ice as of 4pm today (Dec. 30, 2010). This
corner business is adjacent to 2 sidewalk areas—on Ditmas Ave. and on East 3rd
Street. These uncleared sidewalks make this area treacherous for pedestrians, for
children walking to/from school or getting on/off the buses (yeshivas are open now) and
parents traveling with babies in carriages. This is a busy area. With the additional
snow/ice/or slush on the streets this uncleared area adds to the already difficult and
hazardous traveling right now. The fact that the laundramat is closed makes it
impossible for me or my neighbors to talk to the owner or manager about this problem.

1262 12/30 21:30 Dahill Rd Kensington Street not plowed Tehama Street starting at Dahill. It received one pass today, but there is still a layer of
snow on the road, and the roadway needs to be made wider.

1263 12/31 8:51 Warren St Cobble Hill Street not plowed It is Friday, Dec. 31, 8:38 a.m. Our street, the 200-block of Warren, has not yet been
plowed.

On Wednesday, Dec. 29, a FDNY ambulance got stuck. A photo of this debacle
appears on the Dec. 30 front page of the Washington Post!!! A few hours later, a hook-
and-ladder (Co. 118) came to the rescue, only the fire truck-- its chained wheels
spinning--skidded on the snow and ice and slammed into a parked Prius. This will cost
the City some bucks to repair. STILL NO PLOW!

Last night--Dec. 30--a U-Haul van got stuck, spinning its wheels at midnight.

Several cars have spun out, losing control and slamming into parked cars. The damage
on this block has amounted to thousands and most of this damage has been caused by
the Mayor's nonchalance and negligence.

It is 8:48 a.m., Dec. 31, 2010. STILL NO PLOW!!

1264 12/31 9:03 Warren Street Cobble Hill Street not plowed As of Saturday morning Dec. 31 9am our block and many around us here have not been
plowed even one time -- even tho the Mayor has publicly stated every street has been
plowed at least once.
1265 12/31 12:18 story street Kensington street not adequately story street (between church avenue and louisa street) and Louisa street between dahill
plowed, and huge snow road and chester, have huge snow banks all over the street. the plow that came to pave
banks pose a danger story COURT (not story STREET) (by the way story COURT is a private street so that
was nice of the city to come and dump all the snow from story court onto story STREET,
much of it in front of my neighbors driveway) was unable to turn onto louisa due to 10
foot snow banks on the corners. story street was finally plowed december 30th, although
it's hard to tell that it was even plowed because it was such a narrow path and it doesn't
appear to have been salted. we have nowhere to put snow. we need snow removal not
redistribution of snow.
