Janette Sadik-Khan, Commissioner
55 Water Street
New York, NY 10051

Dear Commissioner Sadik-Khan,

I am writing to request information regarding the study period of the Prospect Park West two-way
bike lane, which was recently implemented in our community.

As you know, I am supportive of the effort, and optimistic that it will achieve traffic calming on
Prospect Park West and increase safety for pedestrians and bikers.

However, as you also know, there are deep and strong feelings about the bike lane, both among
supporters and opponents of this project. It is therefore critical that the study period be transparent
and objective. In this spirit, I am asking that you provide the public with the following information:

- What is the duration of the study period?

- What data (e.g. traffic, safety, environmental) will be collected, and to what baseline will
it be compared?
- How will the information gathered be presented to the community?
- How will the public have an opportunity to provide their input and feedback?
- How will the data be evaluated by DOT for consideration of potential changes?

I am committed to making sure that members of the public have an opportunity to make their
opinions and experiences known during this process. In addition to tracking correspondence and
collecting anecdotal data, I have committed to conducting an online survey this fall to gather
additional feedback.

Thank you for your consideration of this request, and for your leadership in efforts to improve our
streets for the use and enjoyment of motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians in our community.

Sincerely,

Brad Lander
