DWAINE R. CARAWAY CITY OF DALLAS January 21, 2011 Caraway Press Statement: For the past four years, Ihave worked tirelessly in a leadership role as Mayor Pro Tem to make Dallas a better city. 1 have been instrumental in moving important city-wide projects forward to increase the City's tax base and improve our quality of life, while continuing to influence and promote equity in southern Dallas and improve District Four one block ate time. T have been working with members of our community to clean up crime trouble spots and remove blight from our neighborhoods. As soon as I was elected (o the Council, I went after drug houses and drug dealers; got abandoned houses knocked down and cleaned up; and worked with police to attack crime at car washes and convenience stores. From trash clean-up days to increased code enforcement, our efforts are making a difference. With all of those efforts, 1 am confident that 1 would be a viable candidate for Mayor. However, | want to make it clear, that there is plenty of time for that, and now is not the right time, 1 will not be running for Mayor. It is important that | keep a campaign promise, which 1 began talking about four years ago. 1 believe I eam have the most influence and positive impact by being a leader in the redistricting process. Therefore, my number one focus, and the most important effort I can take part in at this time, is to make certain that the configuration of representation in our City is balanced, equitable and makes the inost sense for Dallas. I know my efforts in this area will have a lasting impact on our City fer the next 10-15 years, As far as the Mayoral race is concemed, a number of candidates will be announcing over the next few weeks. Twill be watching and making sure that all of the candidates are vetted, and once the candidate emerges, who I believe will best serve all of Dallas, I will make an ‘endorsement. | am proud fo serve our City.
