Its wit the greatest sadness that Lam informing the Board of my plans to retire effective June 30, 2012, My
‘decision to retire is based on my desi to spend long over time with my loved ones
(Over the past nine yeas, Ihave had the honor of working with many Board members who believe the same as I
‘do ~ that our frst esponsibility isto the children of Seymour. Ihave the utmost respect, appreciation, affection
‘nd gratitude for each of you for your passion, vision and the fortitude to always base your decisions on what is
inthe best interest of children.
‘The position of Superintendent is complex and challenging and to me it is a vocation not a job As a
Superintendent, you have the moral obligation and power to improve children’s lives. It is this aspect of the
position that is most rewarding to me.
‘The Seymour Schoo! District is “Good” and we are well on our way to being “Great.” As a District, we are
always inthe pursuit of excellence and this pursuit is never ending, It isthe process of constant reflection and
{oeus on continuous improvement that leads to greatness. T consider myself the luckiest person in the world
because | have hhad the joy of leading this District with our incredible students, our hardworking, dedicated
faculty and staf? and our committed administrative team,
1 believe much of our suecess has been the fact that we have not wavered from our goals. We have not fallen
prey tothe “quick fix” approach. We have held steadfast to the vision ofall children reading on level by grade
thee and kept tothe goals of our strategic plan. Important and needs organizational change occurs over many
yeuts. Leadership that is in constant flux can rarely bring about effective change that truly impacts student
Teaming, 1 have been blessed by having Board members that recognize this fact and truly understand their roles
as part ofthe leadership team.
have met parents and community members that have touched my life because they touch the lives of children
‘with their hard work and deep desire to make this District a place where children get the education that they
deserve. 1 give them my heartfelt appreciation and ask that they continue to fight the good fight
