The concept has its origins in India during the
seventies with a focus on development of in- house
government applications in the areas of defense,
economic monitoring, census, tax administration etc.
Origin
in the urban twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
Objective
A central facility (distributed across the two cities via 48
centres) for payment of taxes, delivery of certificates, bill
payments, document clearance, granting of licences and
permits, asset licensing, forms submission etc
