THESIS STATEMENT
I intend to explore fallacy of digital archiving
as it relates to our memories.

Our belief is that is that these artifacts are

perfectly preserved overtime, without
considering what is lost in the process.
CONCEPT
A suite of “performative” media pieces that
encourages us to consider what is lost in the
digitization process through continuous
reproduction and replication.

PORTRAIT - SCREENING
An 8 minute video that captures and extracts
the sentimental moments lost within 200+
hours of home video footage
weCHATS - GALLERY
An online gallery of significant iChat
conversations that have occurred between
other people and I over the past 6 years. The
conversations become void of all context and
emotional meaning.
ON REMEMBERING SUMMER -
GALLERY
A two minute video compiling a clip that has
been uploaded/downloaded/re-upload to
YouTube 100 times. The video will then play
on a VHS tape repeatedly until the data on the
magnetic strip is destroyed.
SAVE AS - GALLERY
A script that repeatedly saves a JPG over
itself. With each compression, data is
removed from the JPG, eventually leaving it
void of any image.
LIVING ROOM SERIES - PERFORMANCE
A live performance that takes place inside
someone’s living room, in order to recreate a
documented memory of my past.
LIVING ROOM SERIES: SCENARIO
• Contact a friend about hosting an installment of the living room
series

• Ask them to document the performance with a provided camera

• Perform the piece in their living room with the video from my
childhood playing behind me.

• Request that my host refer me to one of their friends

• Repeat the process, but instead of playing the video from my

childhood, I play the video from the previous performance
