Introduction

Based from research, it is said that school uniform comprises scores of

function. One of these is that, it improves social interaction of students

because it removes problems concerning clothing. It serves the purpose of

improving the academic performance of students. Another reason is that, it

is practical. It basically a money saver for parents and lastly, it serves as a

disciplinary tool.

As a student of Far Eastern University, I have always wondered why

some students are allowed to enter the school premises without really being

under the scrutiny of school guards. At times, I ask myself where the

disciplinary officers are at, because part of being a disciplinary officer is to

implement the school rules and regulation including the university uniform

policy. I rarely see them roaming around the campus, so how could they

implement the rules if they don’t really roam around the campus?
 From personal experience, I was asked to pin my student number just

because I wasn’t wearing the FEU I.D starp, I was marked improper/

incomplete uniform. I thought this was surreal because I don’t think that it’s

obligatory to wear the FEU I.D strap but I’m not so sure of it so I let it pass. I

checked the student handbook and wearing the FEU I.D strap it not even

included or mentioned in the “prescribed” uniform.

It is the duty of security guards and disciplinary officers in school are

there to protect the rights of students and at the same time. Implement the

rules. Having a school uniform policy is used to discipline students. But what

if the manifestation of this disciplinary action is vague? This is my very

reason of writing this paper. By writing this paper, I think that the students

will benefit from it, to have a clear understanding about the university

uniform policy and at the same time, defend their rights from unreasonable

actions of security guards and disciplinary officers.

Method

One of the vital instruments that will be used in this research is FEU

student’s handbook. By reading the FEU student’s handbook, one can have

an understanding about the rules and regulations of the school, especially

the university uniform policy. One can know the “prescribed” uniform, the

grounds of being warranted for violating and the technicalities of the said

rule.

Another instrument would be a survey. Getting a sample from the

students population about their understanding about the “prescribed”

uniform” and the university uniform policy itself and to know unwarranted

actions done by guards and disciplinary officers in school. And maybe the

guards and disciplinary officers themselves to know their proficiency in the

university uniform policy.
