GENE GREGORIO PROFILE

Gene Gregorio has been involved in Public Affairs, strategic communications, corporate affairs,
business development, marketing, government relations, and crisis PR for the past twenty-
seven years. The thread of advocacy through appropriate technology has been consistent with
his involvement in organic agriculture, automated elections, and biodiesel production. As such -
his work in addressing food security, transparent and credible elections, and climate change –
has given him the credibility that can enhance the reputation and success of companies and
advocacies. Gene has extensive experience in media, business, government, & non-
government organizations as listed below:

• As President of Agricultural Inoculants Corp., spearheading the engagement with the


executive branch, Local Government Units (LGUs), multi-lateral agencies and the private
sector to promote organic fertilizers to address food security and climate change, and for
the conversion of municipal waste to organic fertilizer project to help LGUs comply with
the Solid Waste Management Act of 2001 (RA 9003).

• Served as Spokesman and handled Public Affairs for the company that won the
Commission on Elections bid to fully automate the Philippines' 2010 elections. This
entailed a nation-wide marketing effort through appearances on major TV and radio
programs, newspaper interviews and facing various for a like media roundtables, civic
groups, students, and other stakeholders. The company was able to deliver the
Philippines’ first historic automated elections that was hailed by the whole world as
credible, peaceful, and transparent.

• Handled business development by identifying choice properties for the Luxembourg-


based Global Tree Trust’s potential biofuel investments in the Philippines. Provided the
firm access to the attendant government agencies, government corporations, GFIs, and
the academe to establish its presence here. Developing possible businesses for the firm
in the field of Renewable Energy. Managed the firm’s Public Relations program with its
prospective partners.

• Managed and planned a nationwide Public Relations campaign exposing a scandalous


government telecommunications project. This resulted in the government’s cancelling
the deal with the supplier because of adverse public and political opinion generated by
the campaign. This spared taxpayers from an unnecessary P16-Billion debt.

• Formed a Non-Government Organization to assist the US State Department in its public


diplomacy program for moderate Muslims in Mindanao. Served as its Executive Director.
In its efforts to spearhead the fight against terror, the United States had inadvertently
earned negative publicity. The Foundation for Peace and Prosperity in the Philippines
(3PF) was able to distribute books, computers, sports equipment in Mindanao. In
addition, it was able to repair schoolhouses in Jolo. This helped arrest the decline of US

stature worldwide by addressing the serious problem of growing anti-US sentiment in


Southeast Asia and particularly in Mindanao.

• At BSMG, he helped conceptualize and executed PR and lobbying strategy for the
Department of National Defense (DND) to acquire financial aid package from the US
Congress for its modernization program.

• He was selected to be a member of the Business Development Committee of the


government’s Information Technology & E-Commerce Council (ITECC), which is chaired
by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. He drafted a communication plan for the
promotion of the country’s E-services niche.

• Gene was awarded the 1998 Travel Writer of the Year Award (foreign and local
category) by the Department of Tourism in recognition of professional skill and insight in
the marketing, advertising, and promotional efforts for the region.

• He wrote an Arthur Andersen member-firm’s (SGV & Co.) marketing communications


through advertorials, cover stories, investor relations PR, and special reports on notable
industries and locales. These were published in PAL’s Mabuhay in-flight magazine and
in other publications.

• Gene pioneered a Canadian management consultancy firm’s pilot Asian market


research (Global Interbank Survey Project) by conducting trade finance interviews in
Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand.
