Raül Romeva i Rueda

Member of the European Parliament

together with
Geneva Call, DCA Mine Action and the Euro Burma Office

are pleased to invite you to a briefing on the

Humanitarian Impact of Landmines

in BURMA
Wednesday, 13 April 2011
16:00 to 17:30
European Parliament, Room ASP 5E1

Burma faces one of the most severe landmine problems in the world today. More than 10% of the
country’s townships are contaminated by landmines, and thousands of civilians have been injured or
killed, with only limited mine action taking place.

The lives and livelihoods of civilians are greatly affected and yet little is known about the full extent of
the problem and its impact and how best to take action in the limited humanitarian space available.

Geneva Call conducted a study in 2010, financed by the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Thailand,
using direct interviews with involved stakeholders, including armed non-State actors, international
and local non-governmental organizations and community based organizations.

Ms Katherine Kramer of Geneva Call and Ms Tamar Tzeps-Znaider of DanChurchAid will

present the major findings of the study and discuss the possible course of humanitarian mine
action needed to start addressing the situation in Burma.

If possible, please let us know if you will attend, or if you cannot attend but would like further information. For
this and/or any questions about the event please contact Mr. Reno Meyer (rmeyer@genevacall.org or
