1. Behaviour should be self focusing – Inward
and not Outward looking.

4. Habits are defined as the intersection of
a. Knowledge (What to do and why),
b. Skill (How to do) and
c. Desire (Want to do).
5. Habits of effectiveness as are based on
principles.
6. Habits to be based Maturity continuum
  i.  Dependence (Paradigm of you-you take
care of me, I blame you),

  ii.  Independence (Paradigm of I-I can do it,


I am responsible) and

   iii.  Interdependence (Paradigm of We-We


can do it, we can cooperate).
HABIT 1 - BE PROACTIVE
1. Perception from social mirror paradigms
a. Genetic determinism (DNA),
b. Psychic determinism (your upbringing),
2. Environmental determinism (your
environment, your boss, your family).
3. Response ability – Decision of how to react.
Not being reactive.
4. Choosing our response to particular
circumstances.
5. ‘Circle of Concern’ and ‘Circle of Influence’.
HABIT 2 – BEGIN WITH THE
END IN MIND
1. All things are created twice- First mental
creation and then physical creation.
2. Personal mission statement.
3. Centers of life are source of security,
guidance, wisdom and power.
4. Center based on principles.
5. Visualize goals and mission statement.
6. List it out Area of activity, character needed,
contributions to be made for it and
achievements to be made.
HABIT 3 – PUT FIRST
THINGS FIRST

1.  It is the practical day-to-day method of


implementing proactive and principle
centered goals.
2. The Quadrant matrix – Avoid focusing
energy on non-important matters.
PARADIGMS OF INTERDEPENDENCE

1. The Emotional Bank Account – The amount of


trust built in a relationship.

2. Six major deposits –


1. Understanding the individual,
2. Attending to the little things,
3. Keeping commitment,
4. Clarifying expectations,
5. Showing personal integrity,
6. Apologizing sincerely you make a withdrawal.
HABIT 4 – THINK WIN / WIN
 
1. Six paradigms of human interaction.

a. Win / Lose - If I win, you lose.


b. Lose / Win - I lose, you win. .
c. Lose / Lose - I lose, you also lose.
d. Win - I win.
e. Win / Win - I win, you also win.
f. Win / Win or no deal - If no mutually beneficial
solution is found, we agree to disagree.
 
2. Five dimensions of win/win
a. Character – Three character traits are
Integrity, Maturity, Abundance
mentality.
b. Relationships – Trust / Emotional Bank
Account.
c. Agreements – Contains elements of
Desired results, Guidelines, Resources,
Accountability and consequences.
d. Systems and processes.
HABIT 5 – SEEK FIRST TO
UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE
UNDERSTOOD.

 Emphatic listening.

 Diagnose before you prescribe.

 Ethos, Pathos and Logos.


HABIT 6 – SYNERGIZE

 Synergistic communication promotes


interdependent effectiveness.
 Valuing the differences.
 Force Field Analysis.
 
HABIT 7 – SHARPEN THE SAW
(PRINCIPLE OF BALANCED SELF
RENEWAL)
1. Renewing the four dimensions of your nature
 Physical – Exercise, nutrition
 Mental – Reading, writing
 Spiritual – Value clarification & commitment,
meditation
 Social/emotional- Service, empathy, synergy

2. Balanced Self-Renewal synergistically makes


all other habits possible.
