info! *This is very important - we should be getting it and reading it

**Symplicity- the Online Job database (we should each get passwords for that on
Oct 30) - keep your contact info accurate so they can keep us informed of
updates and events

Alumni Career Advisor Network- if we want to talk to an alumnus in a particular


area of practice, then we should contact La Tanya and she will then put us in
touch with an alumnus
Webinars on How to Find a Public Interest Job, and other Legal Career info

CDO Student Guide- updated specifically for us. Includes questions and
descriptions of practice areas that might help us out.

Steps to get a summer job

1) Figure out our areas of interest either by reading the CDO Student Guide
or talk to La Tanya (after Nov 1) about areas of interest-- or look online at the
CDO website,

2) Watch webinars on how to find government, public interest jobs

3) Create a first draft of resume and cover letter

4) set up a meeting with La Tanya to go over resume and cover letter


and then plan to send out resumes and network

Summer jobs general info

-most 1Ls do not get paid 1L summer jobs

-3 sources of funding for people with unpaid jobs: 1) for public


interest/government jobs- EJF funding (limited availability); 2) for public
interest/government jobs- GW LAW funding (limited availability); 3) part-
time job

Goals of Summer jobs

-get legal experience

-gain an additional writing sample- hopefully in a field that interests you

-make contacts and build network
