Fighting Malaria

By
Andriana Laskari
EXT. African Savannah- Dawn

A fade from black reveals an African landscape with a doctor’s

hut in the front. The camera zooms into a book which is in the
hut.

INT. The Pop Up Book

The book opens and unfolds a small village. The camera zooms
into a paper woman carrying her baby. With a fade from white
the mosquito on the baby’s shoulder is shown, stinging it and
passing it the parasite. The parasites migrate to the liver
where they multiply and then back to the bloodstream where
they infect the blood cells. With a transition spinning from
the inside to the book and then outside, the desperate mother
is shown carrying her sick baby.

Yet, there is a solution. The right page unfolds and reveals a

doctor holding a vaccine. The camera zooms into the vaccine
which is filled with a small amount of this parasite. An
antibody unfolds which was produced thanks to the vaccine.

With fade from black, the next page is revealed which is the
antibody on a transparent page and a sketch of the bacteria on
the other. The page turns and the two pages match perfectly.
The threat is now recognised from the body and call in the
phagocyte which ingests it. The baby is now safe.

The book closes showing the front cover with the pleased
mother holding her baby.
