Comedy's fastest-rising star takes to the page in a book of essays, personal anecdotes, and impassioned pleas.

Multi-hyphenate Mindy Kaling is an Emmy-nominated writer, the actress famous for playing the beloved Kelly Kapoor on The Office, and the author of one of Twitter's most popular and quoted feeds. She is a keen and witty observer of life, romance, and pop culture, whom the New York Times recently called "an entirely original and of-the-moment" performer and Entertainment Weekly deemed “one of the ten funniest actresses in Hollywood.”

In Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?, Mindy shares her observations, fears, and opinions about a wide-ranging list of the topics she thinks about the most: from her favorite types of guys (including Sherlock Holmes, NBA players, Aaron Sorkin characters, and 19th-century fictional hunks) to life in the Office writers' room to her leisure pursuit of dieting (“I don’t travel, speak other languages, do crafts, or enjoy sports, but I love reading about new diets”) and how much she loves romantic comedies. Loaded with personal stories and laugh-out-loud philosophies, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? is a must-read by one of the most original comedic voices working today.

Don’t Peak in High School
S
OMETIMES TEENAGE
girls ask me for advice about what they should be doing if they want a career like mine one day. There are basically two ways to get where I am: (1) learn a pro- vocative dance and put it on YouTube; (2) convince your parents to move to Orlando and homeschool you until you get cast on a kids’ show,
or
do what I did, which is (3) stay in school and be a respectful and hardworking wallflower, and go to an accredited non- online university.Teenage girls, please don’t worry about being super popular in high school, or being the best actress in high school, or the best athlete. Not only do people not care about any of that the second you graduate, but when you get older, if you reference your successes in high school too much, it actually makes you look kind of pitiful, like some babbling old Tennessee Williams character with nothing else going on in her current life. What I’ve noticed is that almost no one who was a big star in high school is also big star later in life. For us overlooked kids, it’s so wonderfully
 fair.
I was never the lead in the play. I don’t think I went to a single party with alcohol at it. No one offered me pot. It wasn’t until I was sixteen that I even knew marijuana and pot were the same thing. I didn’t even learn this from a cool friend; I gleaned it

I really enjoyed this book! Toward the end, it wasn't quite as funny, but throughout most of the book, she is hilarious. Quite refreshing read about a famous person who loves her family of origin! What a concept! Quick, fun read.

Listened to this book on a road trip. It was funny and had a great beginning, but the ending seemed unfocused and dragged on, or maybe I was just tired of driving.

I love you, Mindy Kaling, and I think that we should be friends.

Also I loved this audiobook, it was hilarious! And made me glad that Mindy worked on my favorite episode of "The Office" "The Injury"

Read from November 26 to 30, 2011First, I had no idea Mindy Kaling was a writer, producer, AND director on The Office in addition to portraying the awesome Kelly Kapoor. Second, I knew she was funny because only someone really funny could pull off the crazy but lovable Kelly Kapoor. Third, if you enjoyed Bossypants you will also like this. Fourth, if you wish you could be into Chelsea Handler, but are freaked out about all of her sex tales, then you should read this. Fifth, you will just like this because Mindy Kaling is awesome.I want to be her friend, but not in a weird stalker way, in the way that I think she's cool and I would totally respect her privacy if I saw her hanging out at The Grove.

This book was just okay for me. I don't watch The Office, so while I enjoyed her humor, I couldn't relate as much. Just didn't do it for me. Took me almost two weeks to get through a very short book - not a good sign...

I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. Mindy is quite funny, and her self-deprecation pairs well with her stories of joining and working in the entertainment industry. I didn't know much about her background before reading this, so it was fun to learn about her previous life before becoming a writer for The Office. If you want a light, quick read by a comedic actress, I'd recommend this one.

Belly Laughs. So hard my cats were startled and ran away.

Seriously.

This was amusing enough but I guess since I don't watch The Office I don't really have any reason to care about Mindy Kaling.

Loved. I really needed something to cleanse my palate after all these subpar YA novels. Light, funny, seriously easy reading. Kept me amused and just further cemented the fact that Mindy Kaling is my Hollywood bff.
