FLIGHT LESSON ONE (TWO HOURS DUAL FLIGHT TRAINER) I. OBJECTIVE To review the Instrument Pilot aeronautical knowledge required by FAR 61-65 (b). INSTREF.TCO-05/98

Review instrument approach procedures, to include precision and non precision approaches, holding procedures and VOR/NDB orientation and tracking. II. CONTENT A. 1. Preflight Discussion Review FAR 61-65 (b) knowledge areas a. FAR, AIM b. ATC system c. IFR navigation and systems d. Use of IFR enroute and approach charts e. Weather forecasts, charts, reports f. Recognition of critical weather situations g. Aeronautical decision making (CRM) Discuss holding, instrument approach procedures, and VOR/NDB orientation Review lesson objectives and establish targets Flight Lesson Instrument preflight and cockpit check ATC clearances IFR departure VOR/NDB orientation and tracking Instrument approach procedures (precision and non precision) Holding Missed approach Landing from an approach Post Flight Critique Student self critique Student decision making with respect to lesson objectives Review lesson targets/completion standards Discuss next lesson, and establish targets Assign homework (cross country from or to an airport in Class B or C airspace)

III. COMPLETION STANDARDS This lesson will have been successfully completed when the student demonstrates an understanding of IFR aeronautical knowledge and is able to apply that knowledge with minimum instructor assistance.

FLIGHT LESSON TWO (TWO HOURS DUAL FLIGHT TRAINER) I. OBJECTIVE To review IFR cross country flight planning and operations. Review emergency INSTREF.TCO-05/98

operations during IFR cross country flight. II. CONTENT A. 1. 2. Preflight Discussion Review cross country flight planning Discuss emergency operations a. Engine failure (multi-engine only) b.
