MILITARY ENGLISH

1. COURSE DESCRIPTION
The course is designed for army staffs assigned for peacekeeping duties in countries torn by international conflicts. The personnels need to work together and communicate effectively and efficiently in English, which is a common language. Thus, the focus of this course is to provide army staffs with the relevant military English vocabulary and essential communication skills required to work in an international military environment.

Course Length
The course is designed for 10 weeks , one meeting per week. One meeting lasts for 1 hour 30 minutes.

ABOUT THE STUDENTS


The class consists of 20-25 students. The students are army staffs from Supply and Transportation Corps. Their age range from 25-35 years. The level of English proficiency is Novice.

2. Learning Outcomes
Learners will be able to communicate using relevant and functional English language material applicable to army (TNI-AD) forces. Learners will be able to communicate orally on everyday social and routine job-related topics.

3. Course Goals
After completing this course, the learners will have developed their speaking skill for international cooperation in international military contexts.

4. Course Objectives

After completing this course, the learners should be able to: Develop listening skills (listening for general contents and listening for specific information) in order to comprehend the speech of people from different regions. To enable learners to convey information fluently and clearly on everyday social and military contexts.

8. Course Activities
A. Simulation Games Learners will use information from the video to understand and then perform drill commands used in army forces. Time : 1 hour 30 minutes Materials Video : WTD Drill Sequence Time : 8 minutes 45 seconds MILITARY\YouTube - WTD Drill Sequence.flv

Procedures 1. Brainstorming 2. Introduce and show the video 3. Ask learners to write some drill commands shown in the video. 4. Replay the video. 5. The instructor utter some drill commands which the learners respond. 6. Learners are divided into groups consist of 4 students. Each group will perform drill commands.

Mid Test Assignment Final Test : 30 % : 30 % : 40 %
