Board Actions

There was much discussion concerning misconceptions about the various types and levels of membership in Rotary International and in our own Rotary Club of Campbell. For example; whats the difference between Rule of 85, Senior Active, or Inactive member? Is there such a thing as Rule of 85? If so, what does it mean? Who can be an Honorary Member? What does that entail? How does one become Honorary? These and other pressing questions have been assigned to a top-notch committee for clarication and resolution. Evidently, over the years there have been many changes to RI regulations about membership and local clubs have not always kept up to date with these changes. We look forward to some clarity from our committee in the near future.

VALLEY FLAVORS THIS SUNDAY!!

There are so many things I want to talk about. It has been a while since I have done an article. First of all, I am so excited about this weekend with Valley Flavors. This last weekend I spent time contacting friends and delivering their tickets, picking up donations such as discount tickets for my favorite knitting store, gift certicates from the Mint Leaf Restaurant that I arranged to have participate in our special event, and saw Marge Bonsall, who although is unable to attend due to a business trip to New York, is providing gift certicates and prizes. Even though I have not been involved in the organization of the event I see Kit holding something pretty that might be decorations, Carl and Janine with lovely gift bags, and meetings going on in preparation. This is an interesting new concept of restaurant and wine tastings and I hope that it is a success. I do encourage everyone to talk to friends, relatives, and neighbors and have them join us for this reasonably priced few hours on Sunday. I want to thank all of those who are doing a lot of hard work so that Campbell Rotary can make a difference in our community for youth. And speaking of youth in the community, after our last meeting, there were quite a few people who were able to stay after and prepare backpacks. It didn't take very long and I am sure that there are many children who are grateful for our contribution. At the end of the session I went to take a picture of piles and piles of the backpacks we had made but there were not very many. The reason was I was told was because several organizations had already come by and taken the backpacks that they needed for their students. It is really gratifying to know that we are able to help so many kids. As you remember Gov. Marley was with us a couple of weeks ago. The board met with him prior to our luncheon and, I have to say, there were a lot of very interesting thoughtful exciting topics discussed. There is a lot of enthusiasm and great ideas in our club. Gov. Marley has many new and creative ideas and I'm sure that with the district and our club great things are happening. As I was roaming around on the district website I found a couple of things of interest. I had been interested in a club roster, however, I found that the district is already putting something together. I have attached copies of something that I found. The rst is Yellow Pages and the second is a job bank. So for example, if you were to go into this site and search for psychology you would nd my name. I spent a couple of minutes putting in information about myself and my location so I am now in the district Yellow Pages. Please check that out and for those interested in this please put your name, business, and information. The other thing is the job bank. If a Rotarian goes in and is interested in looking for a job or I am Rotarian looking for an employee there will be information. This site requests a person to post a resume or a job offer. Gary Citti is the administrator. So check these out. I would like to have members of the club write articles for the newsletter if there is something that you would like to contribute. For example, Jennifer is getting ready to organize an outdoor social walk and she will be able to tell us more about it in the newsletter; or Neil Reid who has likely started back to school to the children. We as a club are doing so many interesting things and I would love to know more about them. I do have some bad news: Ed van Nordeck, Perry Ropp, and Pat Calhoun have resigned from our club. They have decided to go to different clubs, so even though they will no longer be with our club, they will continue to be the great Rotarians that they have been, just somewhere else. I wish them all well and will miss them. Remember, there is still time to get your tickets for Valley Flavors this Sunday and I look forward to seeing lots of friends there.
