CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF LIVINGSTONE

The Word of God in our Life

rom Sunday the 4th September to Sunday the 2nd October 2011 we are celebrating the Bible Month in the Catholic Diocese of Livingstone. Our Bible theme during this month is: Let the word of Christ in all its richness dwell in your heart - Col 3: 16. One may wonder as to why we are celebrating the Bible Month. It is important to dedicate one full month to the Bible so that the Word of God that we read and listen to, helps us to return to God. The Bible month also makes us have the awareness to make God the centre of our lives, families and our communities. The Bible should indeed, be the centre of our Christian life. With the celebration of the Bible Month, we are invited to proclaim the Word of God and witness it in our daily life. It is the Word of God that guides, teaches, comforts and strengthens people in all circumstances. The Word of God is the lamp to guide our paths (Ps. 119:105). On Sunday, 4th September we enthroned the Bible in our churches in a solemn way. The purpose of this ceremony was to show the importance of Gods word in our lives. It also makes us aware that God is indeed present and active among us through his word. May the Bible Month make us become disciples of Christ rooted in the word of God.

PMS Holy Childhood Congress hen Bishop Charles de Forbin Janson founded the Holy Childhood in 1843, he had in mind a world-society where no child would languish in suffering without the assistance of fellow children. His plan was simple: Children helping children, and his constitution was straightforward: A short Prayer and a small voluntary sacrifice for suffering children. To keep alive this dream of the founding father of the Holy Childhood alive, the Diocesan Animation Team of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS), hosted the Second Livingstone Deanery Holy Childhood Congress, from Wednesday, 4th May to Saturday, 7th May, 2011. The venue was St. Theresas cathedral Parish. At the Congress, a total of seventy child-delegates were in attendance from five of the eight Parishes and one church in the deanery: St. Francis-Dambwa, Maria-Regina-Linda, St. Theresas Cathedral, our Lady of Angels, St. Joseph-Mukuni and St. Thomas- Musokotwane. Animators from the respective Parishes ably accompanied the delegates. Every day was characterized by Morning and mid-day Prayers, and Night reflection, with several inputs by facilitators. Topics covered included: PMS and Holy Childhood (Fr. Ngalama), Children evangelizing through Communication (Kelvin-Radio Musi-OTunya), Church Doctrine (Mrs. Nyundu), Adventure Unlimited (Youth Alive Facilitators) and Children Called to be Disciples of Christ (Fr. Ngalama). The objective to teach the Faith to the children and awaken their Missionary awareness was set in motion at the congress. During their own evaluations by Parish, the children of Livingstone Deanery pledged to feel the needs of suffering children, Pray for them, evangelize them and offer their Christian solidarity in Charity. "Let the children come to me, do not hinder them " (Mark 10:14).

very year in the month of October, the universal Church celebrates World Mission Sunday. On 23rd October, 2011, all of us Christians will rejoice in our call to mission, which we received when the sacrament of baptism was administered to us. To help us reflect on our vocation to proclaim the Good News of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Pope Benedict XVI has chosen the theme based on the Lords words of commissioning from John 20:21: As the Father has sent me, so I send you. As a diocese, let us put our hearts together and ask for the inspiration of the Holy Spirit to experience the enthusiasm to proclaim the love of God and the risen Lord to others. In his Mission Sunday message the Pope asserts that the universal mission involves everything and everyone. Even though we have a special day to raise missionary awareness in and among us, mission should be embraced as a way of Christian life. It is not to be tied to a single days celebration. Accompanying our call to proclaim the Good News is our responsibility to promote the Churchs work of evangelization. Mission Sunday challenges us to give generously to the Lords Church for the process of evangelization to be enhanced with resources. As the Pope announces in his message, the Pontifical Mission Societies worldwide are the voice for help to carry out evangelizing activities in mission territories. The Society for the Propagation of the Faith will collect all offerings on this day worldwide for the support of mission churches, like our own diocese. So, give without reservation, for you shall receive in abundance. Let us remember to pray for all those missionaries who have left their own homelands in response to the Lords call to spread the Good News to all peoples. May World Mission Sunday reawaken in each person the joy and desire to go out to meet humanity taking Christ to all.
