abstract
In this lesson, we'll learn some crucial details concerning the
sacraments of anointing the sick, like the importance, the
requirements, the minister, the effects or graces, the symbol, matter
and formula.
introduction
The name Jesus means “God saves.” The name emphasizes that Jesus is the one who has come to save
all. Christ means “anointed.” The name shows that God the Father has given Jesus a mission and endowed him
with power to save and the power to heal. Jesus' whole life was aimed at saving people. His words and actions
are the foundation of the saving grace we now received in the sacraments.
Anointing of the Sick
Jesus instituted the sacrament of the Anointing of the sick when he
said to the apostles: “ They will lay their hands on the sick, who will
recover”

Jesus came to heal the sick in the body and in the spirit.
Anointing of the Sick
The Church continues the mission of Jesus to heal from any sickness of
the spirit and the body through the sacrament of the Anointing of the
Sick.
The Graces of the Anointing of the Sick
1. unites the sick person with the passion of jesus
2. Gives him comfort, peace, and strength to endure the distress of sickness
and of the old age.
3. Forgives all his sins, if the sick could not receive the sacrament of Penance.
4. Helps recover his health, if it is good for his salvation; or prepares him for
a good health.

The Symbols of the Anointing of the Sick
• The Sign of the Cross
Reminds Catholics that their salvation comes through Jesus Christ, and that they are called
to unite their sufferings to those of Jesus
• Anointing of the Forehead
symbolizes the need to know Christ and to follow him
• Anointing of the Hands
When the sick people are anointed on the hands they are reminded that they must turn all
of their activity over to christ.
• Laying on of Hands
Comforts the sick person, but also symbolizes the power of God entering the sick person
through the mediation of the bishop and priest.

Jaycob

Baptized members of the Christian faithful who have reached the age
of reason and who begin to be in danger due to sickness or old age may
receive the sacrament of anointing.

The Minister of the Anointing of the Sick

• Only bishops and priests may be ministers of the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. A
penitential rite followed by the Liturgy of the Word opens the celebration. Scripture awakens the
faith of the sick and family members and friends to pray to Christ for the strength of his Holy Spirit

• Joeme
the elements of the anointing

• The essential parts of the sacrament are an anointing with oil on the forehead and on the palms of
the hands of the sick person, accompanied by the prayer of the priest.

• horace
The three main parts of the anointing of the
sick
• First, the prayer of faith by which the community asks for God's help for the sick;

• second, the laying on of hands indicating the person is the recipient of the prayer of faith;

• and third, the anointing with oil on the forehead and hands signifying healing, strengthening and the
presence of God.
