32 Sophie Street, #1 Somerville. MA 02143 December 22, 2004 Vincent Warren Law Student Intern Program ACLU National Legal Department 125 Broad Street, 18th Floor New York, NY 10004-2400 Dear Mr. Warren: I am a 1L at Harvard Law School and I am writing to apply for a summer internship in your office. I am extremely interested in the ACLU National Legal Departments summer internship because of the opportunity to promote civil rights through impact litigation setting. I am fortunately able to volunteer because Harvard Law School will provide me with funding for the summer. My interest in a civil rights career began while I was working my way through college. Holding jobs in kitchens and restaurants, I was exposed to the chronically abusive environment of low-wage employees. While fighting for their right to workers compensation, fair hours, and decent treatment, I learned how meaningful social justice work could be. This last semester at Harvard provided me the opportunity to continue working on civil rights issues. Recent projects include research to address the militarys presence on campus and representation of indigent defendants at show cause hearings. While at Harvard, Ive also taken the time to sharpen my editing skills by working on the Civil-Rights Civil-Liberties Journal, and enhance my drafting skills by working for Professor Desan on possible litigation challenging the Solomon Amendment. Prior to Law School, I developed a strong work ethic and the ability to succeed with a wide range of personalities by working full time as an undergraduate to finance my education. I believe that my commitment to civil rights work, along with the skills Ive developed, will allow me to contribute to the ACLU. I would greatly appreciate the chance to meet with you to discuss the possibility of a summer position. I will call you next week to see if you are able to meet with me. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me at (212) 270-2000. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely,

Anuragi Singh
