Mission
 
and Philosophy
 
The Mission of the Richmond County Public School System is to educate children to becomelifelong learners and productive citizens.The Mission of the Instructional Services Department is to provide leadership and support forthe professional growth of all staff which will result in maximum learning for all students.In support of this Mission, the Media and Instructional Technology Department will provideinstructional leadership in the use of information and resources, in collaborative planning forschool-wide technology and in assisting in the access and selection of appropriateinformation technologies.It is the philosophy of the Media and Instructional Technology Department that the MediaCenter is an instructional center for the entire school system and a resource center for thecommunity. The Media Center is service-oriented, providing instructional media and
technology services to students, faculty, staff and administrators of the system’s school and
departments and the community at large.
This philosophy extends to each school’s individual media center, with each center’s purpose being service to its students, faculty, staff and administration, based on the school’s stated
instructional needs and objectives as enumerated in their school improvement plan.
Goals
 
 
To provide those services to students, faculty and staff that will enhance theinternational program within the school.
 
To provide instructional materials that will stimulate growth in factual knowledge,literary appreciation, ethical standards and aesthetic and moral values.
 
To provide information that will enable students to make intelligent, informeddecisions in their daily lives.
 
To provide technology options for all students, as well as print and non-printmaterials, in their quest for knowledge.
 
To provide materials on opposing views of controversial issues so students, withguidance, may develop skills necessary for critical reading, thinking, and listening.
 
To provide materials representative of many religious, ethnic and cultural groups andtheir contributions to our mutual heritage.
Purpose
 
The purpose of the Media and Instructional Technology Department is to provide serviceto the schools for educational media, instructional technology and computer services.
 
Questions for print, non-print and technology are handled through thisdepartment.
 
All allocation of funds for books, magazines and erate/grants are issued throughthis department.
