EndNoteisabibliographicmanagementandresearchsoftwareprogram.WithEndNoteyoucansearch databasesonline,organizereferencesaswellascitereferences,instantlyformatandchangeyour bibliographyandshareyourlibrary.Inadditionyoucanattachimages,PDFsandotherfilestocitationsin yourlibrary,makingthemeasiertoaccess. EndNoteisavailableforWindowsandMaccomputers.Thecampusbookstoreoffersstudents(butnot facultyorstaff)adiscountonpurchase.Librariansareavailabletoassistusersandteachworkshopson EndnotehoweverEndNoteisnotavailableforpersonaluseonlibrarycomputers. EndNoteX2isthelatestversionofEndNoteandhasfeaturesnotavailableinearlierversions.Becauseof changesinthesoftwarewesuggestworkingwithEndNote9orhigher. Thefollowingguidehasbeenpreparedbylibrarystafftoprovideyouwithuptodateinformationabout usingEndNoteX2.

PreparingyourEndNoteLibrary
SettingUpanEndNoteLibrary 1. OpenEndNote.IftheGetStartedwithEndNotescreenappears,selectCreateanewEndNoteLibrary andclickOK.Otherwise,selectFilethenNew.... 2. Giveyournewlibraryanameandsaveitinalocationthatmakessensetoyou. InstallingEndNotesListofMedicalJournalTitlesandAbbreviations Beforeyoubeginaddingreferencestoyourlibraryconsiderthatsomecitationstylesusejournals'complete titles;othersuseabbreviations.EndNotecanmakethenecessarychanges,butonlyifthelistoftitlesis importedbeforereferencesareaddedtotheEndNotelibrary: 3. FromtheToolsmenu,selectDefineTermLists,thenclickonJournals. 4. ClicktheImportListbutton.NavigatetothefolderwhereEndNoteisinstalled(usuallyC:\Program Files\EndNote)andopentheTermListsfolder.(Ifyoudonotknowwheretheprogramfileis,orcannot accessit,contactthepersonwhoinstalledEndNoteonyourcomputer.) 5. Savingcitationsinthecorrectformat Afterselectingcitationstosave,selectMEDLINEfromthedropdownDisplaymenu:

MovinganEndNoteLibrarytoAnotherComputer
IfyouneedtomoveyourEndNoteLibrarytoanothercomputer,orwanttoshareitwithanotherEndNote user,youwillneedtomovetwoseparateparts,whichwillbelocatedinthesamefolder.Thesetwoparts areyourEndNoteLibrary,whichwillhavetheextension.enl,andafolderwiththesamenameasyour EndNoteLibrary,butwitha.Dataextension.
