A tree collapsed on a power line in McLeansville, off Highway 70, causing power outages. There are currently 1.76 million customers throughout the state who currently have no power in their homes, and many are stranded in their homes from debris blockage.

Randall Smith of Duke Power works on a power line on Randelman Rd. in Greensboro. Currently, 1.2 million customers are without power, making it the worst ice storm in company history.

A hiker walks through the heavy snow in Snow Camp, located in Southern Alamance county. Walking is currently the only form of transportation for most individuals affected by the ice storm.

John Whitesell, a Greensboro city worker, gets out of his truck to check the salt spreader. Salt trucks and snowplows have been working constantly to clear the roads as quickly as possible.

Residents in Thomasville shovel off their driveways to clear the snow and ice. Shovels, ice scrapers and ice-melting products have been quickly selling out at local businesses since the storm hit.

The message center in the Guilford County shelter is the only way some people can contact their loved ones. Many people have been displaced and no power makes communication difficult.
