Happy New Year!

It is a privilege to be starting this new year with you! I am excited to see what 2012 will have in store for Philippi Baptist. In February, we start our third year together in ministry. I wanted to thank you all for your generous Christmas Gift, your thoughtful cards, and words of encouragement. We are blessed in so many ways. I ran across a poem that gives great insight into this new year: Another Year Is Dawning

Another year is dawning, Dear Master, let it be, In working, or in waiting, Another year with Thee. Another year of mercies, Of faithfulness and grace; Another year of gladness In the shining of Thy face. Another year of progress, Another year of praise, Another year of proving Thy presence all the days. Another year of service, Of witness of Thy love, Another year of training For holier work above. Another year is dawning, Dear Master, let it be On earth, or else in heaven Another year for Thee. --Francis Ridley Havergal (1874) So in working or in waiting, may we allow God to reign supreme in our lives! I'll give the prophet Jeremiah our final word for the start of this year! Lamentations 3:22-24 The unfailing love of the LORD never ends! By his mercies we have been kept from complete destruction. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each day. I say to myself, The LORD is " my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!"NASB) ( Shalom, Pastor Jon

It is her bright and smiling face that greets us all and never lets a child go by without shaking her hand. I believe she is trying at the same time to teach them to respect others. On the Road Again

Whether its a holiday weekend in Knoxville, where Logans parents live, or a romp in the sand at Sunset Beach, North Carolina, where Laurens parents live, or a visit with Laurens sister in Baltimore or Logans brother in St. Louis, or maybe another tour with the Concert Choir or the West Virginians or the Jazz Ensemble, the Lindsey family is constantly on the go. Lauren grew up in Romney and graduated from Alderson-Broaddus with a degree in Music Education. She earned her masters degree at Illinois State University and then, after teaching in Danville, Illinois, headed for the University of Southern Mississippi to work on her doctorate in Choral Conducting. It was there that she and Logan met. Logan grew up on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi and earned his bachelors degree at Southern Mississippi, his masters at the University of South Dakota. He and Lauren were married in 2006. Finally, they came back where they belongedWest Virginia--, and this is where they hope to stay. Nina, a dead ringer for both of her parents, was born here in 2010. In addition to directing four choral groupsincluding The West VirginiansLauren, Assistant Professor at A-B, teaches Music History, Conducting, and the introductory freshman music course. Logan teaches tuba and euphonium and directs the Jazz Ensemble. He also teaches private lessons. Having joined Philippi Baptist Church in the fall of 2011, the Lindseys say that they are glad to be part of the congregation. Its like family, Lauren says. We immediately felt welcome, and we felt that even though we wouldnt be able to attend regularlybecause of touring with the groups we conduct--we might have something to contribute. And we know well receive. Along with helping with Wee Church, the Lindseys see themselves involved in assisting with worship services, and Logan smiles and says, Im willing to help with whatever needs to be done. Im a hands-on person and a people person. Obviously, the Lindseysincluding Nina--are a great addition to the PBC congregation.
