History Mulawarman University (Unmul) was established in September 27th 1962 in Samarinda, East Kalimantan. The universityderiveditsnamefromtheGreatKingMulawarman which was a very powerful King of the Kutai Kingdom, a Hindus Empire in East Kalimantan around 5 After Christ. At thebeginning,theuniversityonlyhad4facultieswhichwere Faculty of Public Administration and Commerce, Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Forestry, and Faculty of Mining. The universitys early years were characterized by a steady expansion of its academic disciplines and establishment of high academic standards into the minds of the university faculties. Since 2000, Mulawarman University developed some new faculties and supporting facilities. Until 2010, this university with 70 hectares of the main campus located in Gunung Kelua area, already has 14 faculties,300hectaresofUnmulBotanicalGardenand20,271hectaresofResearchandEducationForest,15 hectaresofexperimentalgarden,and8,000m2ofexperimentalfishpond.Nowadays,MulawarmanUniversity is considered to be one of the advance university in Kalimantan. In many fields, the universitys scientists, scholars,researchnetworksandresearchinstitutionshaveachievedareputationforoutstandingexcellenceat bothnationalandinternationallevels.Theuniversityplaysacentralroleinprovidingacademicservicestothe localcommunityofferingwelldiversifiedacademicdisciplinesinresponsetothechangingneedsoftheregion andthecountry. Vision Mulawarman University endeavortobe the internationalstandard university thatwould playrolein nations developmentthrougheducation,researchandservicesforthecommunitythatreliesontropicalrainforest. UniversityStructure MulawarmanUniversityconsistsof14Faculties,8GraduateSchools,2Directoratesand2Institutes.Thereare also6ResearchCenters,5CommunityServicescenters,and6TechnicalImplementationUnits,thoseareopen to scholars of all departments and faculties of the university including for foreign students and staff who studyingandworkingattheMulawarmanUniversity,respectively.TheUniversitywidecenterswerecreatedto theaimoffacilitatinginterfacultycollaborationandinterdisciplinaryteamwork.Manyofthefacultymembers associatedwiththesecentersareengagedingraduateschoolinstructionandsupervisegraduatestudents. ExchangingScholarsandStudents ManyscholarsandstudentsfromabroadvisitedtoMulawarmanUniversitythroughacademicagreementand research collaboration. Now, Mulawarman University participated in Darmasiswa Scholarship Program to facilitate the training of Indonesian language for foreign student. Moreover, many of scholars who come to Mulawarmanforparticipatinginternshipprogramsinlaboratoriesandfieldworkaswell. StudentSupport Asanationaluniversity,weoffertheadvantageofreasonablypricedtuitionandfurtherencouragedomestic and international student to attend through tuition waiver programs and scholarships, provided by national andlocalgovernments,publicorganizations,andprivatecompanies.

InternationalRelationshipandNetworking Mulawarman University developsinternational relations and strongly supportsinitiatives byits academicsto collaborate with colleagues from overseas universities and research institutions with an intent to : (1)incorporateglobalcompetencieswithlocalpotentialsfordevelopmentofselectedtargets,and(2)search, develop and transmit local and regional competencies for global recognition and cooperation. Mulawarman University has collaborated internationally with various universities and institutions, in Australia, Canada, China, France, Malaysia, Netherlands, Malaysia, Sudan, Thailand, Taiwan, United Kingdom, UnitedStates.
