Activity/Strategy Overview:

What Is Viability of a Business?

The viability of a business is measured by its long-term survival and

its ability to sustain profits over a period of time.

A business is able to survive when it's viable because it continues to

make a profit year after year. The longer a company can stay
profitable, the better it's viability.

A business demonstrates its viability by making a profit every year of

its existence. Some say a viable business is one "with legs," and
the Cambridge Dictionary says something with legs can continue to
exist and be successful for a long time.

Viability is like trust. When your trust in someone is shaken, it's

almost impossible to get it back. And when a business loses its
profitability, that's difficult to recover. So viability is linked to profit,
but also to both solvency and liquidity.

Based on the definition of viability mentioned earlier, how can you

relate this to your present status right now as a student/teenager?
Say for example in your community, what types of products
viable/saleable? How will you describe?
Abstraction The teacher discusses the environmental factors to be considered in
selling the products:
Socio-cultural Conditions-refers to demographics situations which
includes the rise of the Filipino middle class and the growing elderly
population; lifestyle trends, including the increasing emphasis on
health and sustainable living and shifting consumer references.
Technological Conditions – assessment of the major developments
in science and technology.
Economic Conditions-description of the growth of both the national
and local economies.
Politico-legal Conditions–must take into account the existing laws
and regulation, as well as future legislation that could directly affect
the business.
Application The class will be divided into 4 groups. Based on the video
presentation, each group will determine problems about viability
and come up possible solutions with regards to the problem.
Learners will answer the following questions:
1. Based on the video, what is the viability problems found in
the scene?
2. Can you cite possible solutions to answer the viability
problems?
