UW Center for Workforce Development Graduate Research Assistant

The Center for Workforce Development (CWD) at the University of Washington is seeking a graduate research assistant to assist in an ongoing external evaluation of the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) and National Center for Women & Information Technology- Extension Services (NCWITES). NCWIT seeks to improve the meaningful participation of women in computing and technology. The evaluation uses both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. More information about NCWIT is available at www.ncwit.org CWD creates customized programs to develop the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) workforce through recruitment, retention, and advancement strategies. CWD conducts research and evaluation in the areas of gender and ethnic diversity in STEM. The graduate research assistant position will be available starting Summer quarter 2012. The graduate research assistant reports to the Director for Research in the Center for Workforce Development and is a member of a highly collaborative team working on CWD projects. Duties include the following: Responsibilities: 1. Contribute to the overall evaluation of NCWIT, an organization devoted to increasing gender diversity in IT and computing, as well and other issues identified as CWD priorities; 2. Contribute to high quality data collection, data management, and analysis as needed for the research and evaluation programs managed by CWD, particularly NCWIT; 3. Manage assigned research tasks, maintain organized project files, coordinate with collaborators, assist in writing and analyzing multiple surveys per year, as well as conducting occasional interviews; 4. Thoroughly and clearly document project analyses and data processes; 5. Co-author research and evaluation reports for dissemination in print and web-based media. Requirements: Excellent organization skills and ability to simultaneously manage multiple data files; Excellent research, writing and oral communication skills; Experience using quantitative and qualitative research methodologies to collect and analyze data; Experience using computer software to perform statistical analyses (bivariate, some multivariate statistics) and data management (i.e. Survey Monkey, SPSS, Excel, and Microsoft Word); Experience in effectively communicating research results to a wide variety of audiences; Knowledge of web-based resources and web search skills; Research experience and background in diversity issues in a college or university setting; Currently enrolled graduate student at the University of Washington. The position requires at least a one-year commitment, and compensation will be at the Research Assistant level (i.e., depending on progress in graduate program, monthly stipend plus tuition remission and health insurance).
