She implements innovative ideas which are evident in the many different hardware and software solutions she has helped make reality, Ferrentino said. She goes above and beyond in every aspect of her job to provide better services to the students and staff at MCC, he added. Marvel takes great pride in her work, is always very helpful and always has a kind word and a smile. She is respected by all of her colleagues because of the attitude she demonstrates in carrying out her duties and for the quality levels associated with finished projects. The BATTLE OF THE BANDS was a great success. This event is one of the many fund raisers to help cover the All night event that is held to prevent drinking by our senior class students after they celebrate class night. Tri-County was blessed by the presence of 6 bands and 2 solo singers that all rocked the High School Gymnasium. The crowd got a $100 show for a mere $5 fee thanks to the generosity and true good will of the bands that performed. The line-up included: LAZY J, PLAIN ACES, ANDY ONYMOUS, THE BROKEN, BREAKING HABIT, T and A, KIANA HACKBARDT, AND KENDRA BOGARDUS. First place and huge congratulations goes to Breaking Habit,
B at t l e o f t h e B a n d s
a band from Grand Rapids consisting of high school students, Joe Jenneman, Trevor Richards, and Arthur Jones. They are an alternative rock band and the crowd loved them. Second Place went to our local Christian band The Broken. They play regularly at the Crossroads Church in Howard City and are defiantly worth checking out if you missed them on Saturday. A huge honorable mention and thank you goes to the remaining bands whose caliper was way above our little high school event but their attendance showed their dedication to our childrens well being. Andy Onymous recently played Laugh Fest in Grand Rapids and reached out to us to play for this event knowing that the proceeds benefited a great event. Andys peeing on an electric fence lyrics may remain in our memories forever. Thanks Andy. Lazy Js crew consistent of a variety of members that kept the crowd wanting more and truly showed their support for the cause. Thanks guys. Plain Aces rocked the house as well. Dominic Petreull, a junior at Tri-County High School, played the drums while the band kept the crowd on the edge of their seats. Great job. TandA consisted of Tyler Bennett and Alyssa Moggo from Tri-County High School who provided the crowd with their own musical styling of guitar and vocals. Thanks. We were also fortunate to have two younger upcoming soloists add a separate challenge to this event. Kiana Hackbardt and Kendra Bogardus both 10yrs old of Howard City braved the stage to belt out their favorite songs and put the crowd in awe. First Place Solo was given to Kendra, with a close second going to Kiana. Be expecting to hear more from these girls in the future.
Another huge thank you, to Dave Holbrook from Klik Red for donating his time and equipment to provide Master of Ceremony services. Boy where the bands glad to hear he wasnt competing in the competition.. The BATTLE OF THE BANDS competition event raised almost $900.00, and considering the small crowd it was a huge amount. Thank you to all who helped.. Be sure to thank the school staff and janitors as they also donated their time to help support the senior class. This is a great event to get the community involved and have a great time while doing it. Stay tuned for more news from this group big yard sale coming at the end of April.

LAKEVIEW On Wednesday, March 21, staff of Spectrum Health Kelsey Hospitals Lakeview Youth Clinic and Lakeview Community Schools celebrated the kick-off of All-Stars, a program for fifth graders Lakeview Community Schools Middle School Gymnasium. Fifth graders played interactive games focused on character traits, such as honesty, kindness, responsibility and respectfulness. Students worked together to determine definitions of these traits and how they can demonstrate them in their own lives. The students then enjoyed cake and ice cream, generously donated by Leppinks in support of the program. Jodi Aniszko, Lakeview Youth Clinic Program Coordinator, spoke about this program as an example of the partnership the Clinic is building with Lakeview Community Schools. The Lakeview Youth Clinic is excited to work within the schools to promote health and well-being. The All-Stars Program is cal experience. COMMUNITY NEWS
Suspect apprehended
On Nov. 1, 2011, Montcalm County Sheriffs Deputies responded to Randy Merren Auto Sales at 5535 Greenville Road in Montcalm Township regarding a Break In of the building as well as an attempted theft of an automobile. Montcalm County Sheriffs Deputy Charles Mahar learned that employees of the Auto Sales arrived at work in the early morning hours and witnessed an individual seated in one of the vehicles parked in the lot for sale. When the employees approached the individual, the subject exited the vehicle and quickly walked away. The subject was not located at that time. Deputy Mahar processed the break in scene for evidence and sent that evidence to the Crime Lab for analysis. An analysis produced a suspect after positive identification was made on trace evidence. A warrant was obtained for the suspect who was believed to have fled the area. The investigation led to a possible location and the suspect was apprehended on March 29, 2012. The suspect, a 22 year old Kalkaska man, is awaiting return to Montcalm County for arraignment.

ship board meeting I attended. I sat as our supervisor and board spent approximately 20 minutes going over township business that you would expect at a township meeting. Then for the next 40 minutes, I watched as our supervisor, in an extremely rude manor, ridiculed a husband and wife that were sitting in the front row. Their names are Sally and Bob Richards, and are residents of Reynolds Township. Whether or not our board or other residents agree with this couple or not, this not the issue I have. The meeting reminded me more of what you would expect if you lived in Russia or Hitlers Germany in the early 1940s. It was actually embarrassing to sit in a meeting where 2 members of our community were ridiculed publicly by the supervisor and our assessor along with some of our supervisors friends and family members. One man actually stood up and cheered when Mr. Grannis and Mrs. Stedman nished with them. I see this as the board trying to intimidate people into submission to their WILL and IDEALS. What I saw this board doing is exactly what I would expect if I were living in Iraq or Afghanistan, not Howard City. If this board and their friends think this will intimidate people into not voicing their opinion openly in meetings, they may be right, but I think they will nd out on the August 14th primary election, that people in Reynolds Township still want their freedom and are willing to ght for them. I personally had a great grandfather who fought to preserve our country in the Civil War, an uncle killed in France in World War II, and several other uncles that served in that war. My dad served in Korea for 2 years, and a brother that was killed in the Marine Corps in a helicopter. My oldest son, Ken, is currently serving in Afghanistan. These men fought for the very freedoms that are being taken away by these township ordinances that are now being enforced by this board. I have nothing but respect for these men and women that have given their years of service for our freedoms, and I will not dishonor them by giving into a board of people that seem to consider ordinances stronger than the will of the people they are supposed to represent. These ordinances they claim the people voted on were never voted on by us only by the board members. They are supposed to represent what we the people want and how we want our community, right? I do not believe the people in this community would have ever voted yes to many of the ordinances that are now being selectively enforced on us citizens. The sad part of this is I am sure they themselves, or family members of theirs, have also served to protect the very rights and freedoms they are now taking from us.

Whats the big deal? When you are in loan default, your wages may be garnished. Your tax refunds may be seized by the U.S. Department of Education for certain loans. You can lose certain loan benets such as lowered interest rate incentives. You might lose eligibility for future loans, say for graduate school. The lender may refuse all forbearance options more on that later. The cost of your loan will increase every day. Youll owe late fees and YOU will pay THEIR attorney to collect from YOU! Not to mention, your credit rating gets shot. So pay attention! Bankruptcy? Unless your student loans are through private parties like Uncle Max and Aunt Maxine you can never walk away from student loans through bankruptcy. Never.
Save the day. You can save the day but rst you must know the terms of your student loan. How? The time has come to read that dreary paperwork you signed in order to get what you thought of then as free money to go to school with. Why? Because you cant take any steps to change the terms of your student loan, unless you rst know what the exact terms are. Lenders listen and have more respect for people who speak knowledgeably. When? At the moment you hear that little voice in the back of your head that starts saying: Remember, pretty soon you have to start paying on your student loan itll be time to read your IOU your Promissory Note.
The important terms. Every loan from every lender has ve most important terms. So nd the answers to these questions: How much did I borrow? When do I have to start paying it back? What is my interest rate? What is my monthly payment amount? What are my options for renegotiation of my loan or for forbearance? Forbearance is a special privilege
The ve/ve. You have to do ve things: 1. nd your loan paperwork, 2. learn the ve most important terms of your loan, 3. call the lender, 4. write the lender, 5. wait to hear.
Write, then wait. No matter what they tell you on the telephone even if you get rejected - write. The point of writing is that the lender will have a harder time ignoring your request. Shell have a writing to study, with the details of your proposal for a new payment plan. That gives you the opportunity to convince, beg and plead yes, this is the time for humility. Give examples of why it could be to your lenders advantage to grant your request to rewrite the loan. One example is that perhaps you have only $100/ week to make payments with, and $100/week is a better payment than nothing. If you cant bring yourself to write the letter, that education might not have been worth the money you borrowed. If nothing else, you should have learned that nothing ventured means nothing gained.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------Jeanne Jerow practices Business Law, Property law, extensively in Divorce & Custody, Estate and Trust Planning certicate, Adoptions, Probate, Auto Accidents. Remember, because you read it here, its not your personal legal advice. Dont depend on it.
Whats your offer? Maybe you offer to pay interest only for three years then start payments of a bigger amount. Maybe you want a longer time to pay, but with lower payments. Before you make that call decide exactly what youre asking for. Obviously a loan with lowered interest and lowered payment amounts which is paid back over more years can benet the lender, who might end up with more money over the longer haul. Ask your bank manager to help you gure out what might sound good to your lender.

Make the first five years count: What parents should know
NORTH AMERICAN PRECIS SYNDICATE
The first five years of life are the years of learning that shape kids futures. Yet every year, more than 1 million children with unidentified delays and disabilities enter school with learning and health issues that put them far behind their peers. According to the National Survey of Childrens Health, one in five households with children has a child with a special health care need and could benefit from screening and services, yet less than 20 percent of children under the age of 5 receive a developmental screening. While every child develops at his or her own pace, there are some milestones parents should be aware of. Easter Seals, through the generous support of the CVS Caremark Charitable Trust, offers parents free access to an online screening tool to help parents monitor their childs developmental milestones. Widely used with parents by health care providers, preschool programs and early childhood professionals, Brookes Publishings Ages & Stages Questionnaires can now be easily completed by parents at www.MakeTheFirstFiveCount.org. Here are a few of the milestones included in the screening tool: Birth to 1 year At 2 months, does your baby

smile when you talk to her? Does your baby roll from his back to his tummy at 8 months? When holding a small toy in each hand, does your baby clap the toys together (like Pata-cake) at 12 months? 1 to 2 years At 14 months, does your baby take several steps without tripping or falling? Does your child help turn the pages of a book at 16 months? When you ask your child to point to her nose, eyes, hair, feet, ears and so forth, does she correctly point to at least seven body parts? 2 to 3 years Does your child run fairly well, stopping herself without bumping into things or falling? Does your child put on a coat,
jacket or shirt by himself? When drawing, does your child hold a pencil, crayon or pen between her fingers and thumb like an adult does? 3 to 4 years Can your child cut paper with child-safe scissors? If you place five objects in front of your child, can he count them by saying, one, two, three, four, five, in order? 4 to 5 years Does your child use fourand five-word sentences? Does your child usually take turns and share with other children? If something doesnt feel quite right, share your concerns with your health care provider. Early identification and treatment are keys to a bright future for your child.

Many people suffer from head pain. I have had two migraines in my life and they are truly incapacitating. The physical mechanics of migraine are as follows: Something causes a cluster of blood vessels in a part of the brain to contract (vasoconstriction). This may last for ve to sixty minutes. During the period of vasoconstriction many people will experience something call an aura. This is a warning that phase two is coming. The aura symptoms can be very frightening especially the rst time. They include: nausea, photosensitivity (lights bother the eyes), noise sensitivity, smelling things that are not there, strange tastes in the mouth, ashes of light, wavy lines, blind spots, blindness in half of the visual eld or in one eye, weakness in part of the body, creepy feelings in one part of the body, garbled speech, and more. Phase two of the migraine involves a change in the blood vessels from constriction to dilation. It was taught for years that when the area of blood vessels that were constricted and not getting enough blood ow, begin to dilate or enlarge, now that part of the brain becames engorged with blood. The pressure that was then applied on the brain coverings and surrounding tissues caused the pain of the migraine. There is some new evidence now that dilation of the blood vessels of the scalp may play a bigger role in the head pain than dilation of the brain blood vessels. The aura can occur without pain following. This is called a silent migraine. And the pain can occur without the aura. Abdominal migraines can occur and in this case, the pain in phase two occurs in the abdomen instead of the head. Natural treatment focuses around what causes the initial constriction of the blood vessels. We believe that the cause of most of these headaches is a chemical trigger that comes from foods or toxins. The cumulative effect of food additives, preservatives, pesticides, herbicides, hormones, etc as well as toxins in our air and water undoubtedly have some effect on the blood vessels and nerves of a genetically susceptible person. The offending trigger causes the cascade of events leading to pain. We think the rst step toward a cure is a colon cleanse. When I rst heard this I laughed. How could the bowel and headaches be connected? A colon cleanse heals the bowel lining so wastes and toxins in our food are dumped down the toilet and not absorbed into our blood. Cleanses should not be used by a weak, debilitated person. Exercise is very important. Muscular activity moves waste by-products from our cells through our routes of elimination and out of the body. Drinking lots of water really helps. Food diaries may help identify triggers. Foods can affect us up to four days after we eat them. So, after a migraine write down everything you have eaten for the previous four days. After a while you may see a pattern immerge. You can also do food elimination / challenge for the following food groups: dairy, wheat, corn, soy, and yeast (raised, aged, fermented, mushrooms). So, one food at a time, eliminate that group for two weeks, then challenge by eating foods in that group for one day, then observe for four days. If no migraine is triggered, go to the next group. If you get a headache after the challenge you know that is part of the trigger. It can be a component of the food or an additive if it is a processed food. If a reaction occurs, then eliminate that group for three months and try it again. Reactions can be quantity related and it can be a cumulative effect of several foods from a certain group. Look to foods and your digestive system for the answer to migraine. There can be emotional and stress causes but that is a story for next time. Put Your Health in Your Own Hands. What a lovely day it is to go for a bike ride. The sun is shining, the birds are beckoning and you cant wait to get outside. You change clothes, lace up your shoes and head out the door. Wait a minute! Where is your bike helmet? Bike helmets are essential for preventing head injuries during an accident or fall. There are many brands available. Not all are constructed well or approved by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) or the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). When shopping, look for a quality helmet with the safety seal of the CPSC or ANSI. Try on every helmet of interest and make sure it ts comfortably. The helmet should be snug, allowing for very little movement all around. It should rest at on your head and cover the top of your forehead. The straps should help keep the helmet in place and form a V shape under your ears. If the helmet tilts in any way, you may need a smaller size. For visibility, white or bright-colored helmets are best. Some brands also come with headlights for optimum visibility. Just make sure whatever helmet you select does not impede your vision. A quality helmet is a must for bike riding, but it will do you little good if you dont wear it. Set an example for your kids and strap it on for every excursion, even if you are just going for a short ride around the block. Check that the straps are below your chin, not to the side. Teach your kids how to wear their helmets, insist they use them and encourage them not to play with their helmets on. The straps can pose a choking hazard on the playground. Treat your bike helmet with care. Clean it regularly and put it away when not in use. Check the condition of it routinely and replace it as needed, in particular after a bike accident. Just because you dont detect any damage to your helmet does not mean there isnt any. Replace it before your next ride. You may have never had a bike accident, but doesnt mean you wont. Just one little slip on a patch of wet pavement or a rocky path can lead to a crash, which can result in a head injury if you arent wearing a helmet. Buy a bike helmet, use it properly, and it could just save your life!

What are two things we cant live without? Food and drink, right? Some people might add money to that list, but you can live without money. Some people might also say love. But what if your love life isnt all you want it to be? Believe it or not, the rst two things mentioned-food and drink-can possibly help enhance intimacy. At its core, intimacy is a form of exercise. To get the most out of any exercise, you need energy. Assuming youre in reasonably good health, the best way to get energy is through a sensible diet. To ensure a sensible diet, stay away from fatty foods, eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, get your share of lean protein and enjoy some dairy and whole grain products. You might also want to incorporate the following foods into your diet. Bananas Bananas have something called bufotenine, which is said to improve mood, self-condence and sex drive. Bananas are also teeming with B vitamins, which help in the development of sex hormones. Chicken Chicken is loaded with zinc and B6, which help produce testosterone. Chocolate Most people like chicken and bananas, but youd have to search far and wide to nd anybody who doesnt like chocolate. The phytochemicals in chocolate enhance the ow of blood to all parts of the body. Chocolate also contains theobromine, similar to caffeine, which can help get your motor running and antioxidants, which help boost your immune system. Chili The spice to spicy foods comes from capsaicin, which releases endorphins. High levels of endorphins elevate sensation. Fish Salmon and oysters are also winners for potentially improving your love life. Salmon is high in omega-3 fatty acids to make your nervous system function better and oysters are loaded with zinc, which helps produce testosterone. Soy Soy is said to ght the symptoms of menopause. Women with a history of breast cancer should not eat large amounts of soy, however, as doing so can risk recurrence. Liver Remember how youd always ask Mom for second and third helpings of liver when you were growing up? You dont remember that? Well, nows your chance to make up for all those helpings you missed. Liver has glutamine, which boosts your immune system and desire.
