The interplay of seemingly random events are the genesis for Jiri Hnitka’s
photographs. He connects with an aesthetic found within the detritus on our
streets, and through his lens hidden narratives are revealed. Splatters of paint
on a scaffolding plank or a bottle top crushed into the pavement; These are the
tiny details we pay no attention in our visually saturated urban surrounds. To
the artist they are the readymade works of art; A medieval Horse & Taurus, or
skeletons engaged in a macabre dance; While discarded plastic bags form a
touching portrait of “the cop couple”.
To most of us the existence of these images might be the result of coincidence
or serendipity, but the artist maintains that everything is connected.
Hnitka’s photography documents fleeting glimpses, takes in scenes from the
myriad of anonymous dramas that are set on on the stage of our sprawling
metropolis.
