0 to 60: Whats my Acceleration?

Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity with time. Sounds confusing, I know. But hang on. We are going to work with average acceleration. So lets write that down.

Final velocity initial velocity Average acceleration= ------------------------------------------Final time initial time Remember that velocity is speed and direction. What is velocity?___________________________ So every time we do this test, we are going to record the beginning speed and direction, the ending speed and direction, and the beginning and ending time. ___ miles/hr__(direction) - ____ miles/hr ___(direction) Average acceleration= ---------------------------------------------------------------------------____ final time -____ beginning time Put your numbers in the blank and do the math. You should end up with something like 55 miles/hour/2 seconds (or whatever your time was)
Now if I reduce my fraction , I get 26.5 North miles/hour/second. That means that for every second I travel, my speed increases 26.5 miles per hour in a northerly direction. Repeat your car acceleration trials several times.
