THE COFFOR SYSTEM

Description Applications Tests performed - Certifications Advantages over other Systems Cost effective

February 2010

DESCRIPTION (1)

Integrated formwork System Two grids (riblathe) Vertical stiffeners every 20 cm strengthen the panel With or without thermal insulation Horizontal links connect the two sides together Hot dip galvanized steel

February 2010

DESCRIPTION (2)
Concrete is poured between the two grids Excess water is eliminated by gravity Air is also eliminated Concrete pressure is greatly reduced COFFOR remains in the wall after pouring

February 2010

CONCRETING

Less than 1-2% of concrete go through the grids

February 2010 4

CONCRETING

Concrete can be poured from the slab formwork of the upper floor
February 2010 5

CONCRETING

Even when concrete is poured horizontally and vibrated, less than 1-2% of concrete pass throuh the grids
February 2010 6

INNOVATION COFFOR
All the components of COFFOR are already used in construction: riblathe, C channels, rebars The particularity of COFFOR is to assemble them together

COFFOR IS A SYSTEM

February 2010

62

CERTIFICATION
The first construction was done in 1996 (first generation of COFFOR) for the piles of the Hospital George Pompidou in Paris, France Over 5.000.000 m2 of constructions have been built COFFOR is certified: CSTB (France), CNERIB (Algeria), ITB (Poland), Switzerland, China, Russia, Thaland, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt, etc.)

February 2010

63

Laboratory tests
Several tests were performed in France, Switzerland, Egypt, China, Algeria) to measure: Resistance under compression Resistance under deflexion Bonding of the C profile to concrete Immediate shrinkage of concrete Concrete quality

February 2010

64

Deflexion test

The COFFOR panel 200 cm x 122 cm x 15 cm has no rebar reinforcement Under centered deflexion, the panel broke under a weight of 48 KN (4,8 T) In addition, the panel demonstrated high ductility
February 2010 65

Elimination of excess water improves concrete quality

The water/cement ratio is lower The resistance in compression is 8-10% higher The immediate shrinkage is 10 times lower: 2

vs. 20-25 for traditional waterproof formwork The elasticity modulus is 30-40% higher

February 2010

66

COFFOR is a construction System easy to use

COFFOR offers advantages: For the contractor For the controlling organization For the developer For the user
February 2010 67

ADVANTAGES (1)
No investment for the contractor Very light (10 kg/m2), COFFOR can be carried by hand Construction time is reduced by compared to traditional shutter Systems and 3-4 times compared to column and beams Systems
February 2010 68

ADVANTAGES (2)

Easy to use No qualified personnel is necessary contrary to other Systems No need for accessories (wires tubes are sufficient) contrary to shutters
acile

February 2010

69

ADVANTAGES (3)
Easy insertion of rebar (if necessary) No need to add rebar in current portion of walls Elimination of anticrack welded wire
acile

February 2010

70

ADVANTAGES (4)
Visual control of the pour (no segregation) Increased security no need for crane Easy insertion of conduits for plumbing and electricity Cost effective compared to other Systems
acile

February 2010

71

ADVANTAGES (5)
COFFOR allows all architectural creations Last minute changes are possible Other filling material is possible (flying ash) COFFOR is ecological: environment is not polluted (no wood burnt on constuction site, no need for cleaning oil), natural ressources are preserved by the elimination of extensive use of bricks
February 2010 72

ADVANTAGES (6)

Easy use of all type of finishing. Stucco bonds very well on the riblathe

February 2010

73

ADVANTAGES (7)
COFFOR is easily cut with a circular saw

February 2010

74

ADVANTAGES (8)

INSULATED COFFOR offers an exterior insulation that eliminates thermal bridges

February 2010

75

ADVANTAGES/DISADVANTAGES OF COFFOR VS. SHUTTERS

February 2010

146

DISADVANTAGES OF COFFOR VS. SHUTTERS

A finishing is necessary COFFOR cannot be used again Necessity to wear gloves

February 2010

147

ADVANTAGES OF COFFOR VS. SHUTTERS (1)

No dismantling necessary Elimination of all problems related to shutters (investment, availability, transport, cleaning, maintenance, rotation, storing) No need for qualified workers No accessories

February 2010

148

ADVANTAGES OF COFFOR VS. SHUTTERS (2)

No crane necessary Increased security on the site Easy control of the rebar presence Easy control of the pour Possibility to pour one story including walls and upper slab in one pass Easy integration of second work reserves (piping for electricity and plumbing)
February 2010 149

COFFOR IS COST EFFECTIVE

Compared with traditional column and beams structure, COFFOR uses much less steel COFFOR uses a little more concrete but eliminates most of the bricks COFFOR saves on labor and on construction time

February 2010

150

COFFOR USES LESS STEEL

For a 5 story-building for example, 50 percent less steel with COFFOR compared with a column and beams structure No rebar in the current portion of the walls (compliance with EUROCODE) With COFFOR, only rebar in corners and around the opening Steel quantity in COFFOR panels corresponds to 60 kg/m3 (1 sqm weighs 11 kg)
February 2010 151

COFFOR USES A LITTLE MORE CONCRETE

With COFFOR most column and beams are eliminated Quantity of concrete with COFFOR is about 20-30 % greater than concrete in frame structure Approximately 60-70% of bricks are eliminated with COFFOR

February 2010

152

COFFOR SAVES ON LABOR AND ON CONSTRUCTION TIME

Man-hour with COFFOR is reduced by 70% compared to column and beams Less qualification of workers with COFFOR Construction time with COFFOR is 3 to 4 times faster:
one floor per week with COFFOR One floor per month with traditional column and beams

Savings in management and overhead is important for the contractor

February 2010 153

CONCLUSION
COFFOR builds shear wall ---> safer construction COFFOR is faster COFFOR is simpler COFFOR is cheaper
