Introduction
The following document details the procedure for the typical installation of Optimum’s manhole lid
antenna.
Tools Required
• 1 ¼” open end wrench
• Large nylon Ty-wrap cable ties
Procedure
Use the following steps to correctly install the manhole lid antenna.
1. Remove the manhole lid that the antenna is to be installed on and rest it in a stable position.
Both the top and bottom of the manhole lid should be easily accessible.
2. Remove the nut and washers from the threaded neck on the base of the antenna.
3. Route the antenna’s cable and neck through one of the holes in the manhole lid until the base of
the antenna is against the top of the manhole lid.
4. Install the flat washer, lock washer and nut (in that order) on the threaded neck of the antenna.
Tighten the nut with the open end wrench until both washers are compressed against the base
of the manhole lid (see Figure 2) and the antenna is secure.
5. Install the extension cable by connecting the female end of the extension cable to the Manhole
Lid Antenna, and the male end to the radio device. Tighten both connections securely for good
signal transmission.
6. To complete the installation, gather and neatly coil any excess antenna cable. Secure the
excess cable to the access ladder (or some other stable, non-obstructing location) with the Ty-
wrap cable ties. Use care when replacing the manhole lid.
