The determination of water quality for color and smell

1. 2. 3. 4. Necessary equipment: Erlenmeyer Flask, Florence Flask, Paper Filter. Standard solutions( phenol solution, organic methyl, litmus) or Colored Glass Blades,

Working mode: Color: The water sample is compared with a calorimetric scale or with standard solutions or with colored glass blades. Smell: 150-200 ml water is introduced in a covered Erlenmeyer flask to be analyzed. The Erlenmeyer flask is shaken, and then it is opened in order to inspire the smell. The smell is compared with a known one (aromatic, of pond, fishy, undefined, etc.).

The determination of water turbidity

1. 2. 3. Necessary equipment: disk rope(string) meter

Working mode The disk is tied to a rope and placed in water until it becomes poorly visible, viewed from above. We measure the ropes length. We repeat the determination several times. We make sure that there are no interferences with the reflection on the water surface. Worksheet: Sample origin: Bistrita River Date and Hour of sampling: 26.04.2012, 13:00 Weather conditions: cloudy sky, weak wind Conclusions: Color: uncolored Smell: odorless Turbidity: transparent (up to 30 cm depth)
