APA CHEAT SHEET

Here are the three reference formats that youll probably use the most: BOOK Authors last name, first initial. (date). Title of book. City where the book was published: Publishing Company. Frankl, V. (1984). Mans search for meaning. New York: Simon & Schuster.

ARTICLE FROM A KAPLAN DATABASE Authors last name, first initial. (Date). Title of article. Name of Magazine, Newspaper, or Journal, Volume # (issue). Retrieved on [date you found the article] from [Name of Database]. Lord, L. (2003). A first lady of many firsts. US News and World Report, 135(20). Retrieved February 16, 2004, from Academic Search Elite database. [Note the hanging indent. The first line of each reference starts at the left margin. Additional lines are indented.]

A WEB SITE With a web site, you may not have all the information, so put only what you can find. Do not begin with a date or www. If there isnt any author, begin with the title of the article or page. If there isnt any author, article, or page name, begin with the name of the web site. Authors last name, first initial. (date). Title of article. Name of Web Site. Retrieved on [date you found the information] from the World Wide Web: http://www.??????.com.

ALPHABETICAL (ABC) ORDER All references are alphabetized together. To alphabetize: 1. 2. 3. 4. First preference is by the authors last name. If there isnt an author listed, use a corporate author. If there isnt an author or a corporate author, use the title of the article. If there isnt an author, a corporate author, or the title of an article, use the name of the web site, book, magazine, etc. This will probably happen only with web sites.

PAGE NUMBERS & RUNNING HEADERS Heres how to do page numbers and running headers correctly. : ) Page Numbers: On the gray tool bar at the top of the screen, click on Insert. Page numbers should be at the top right of the page. Running Header: On the gray tool bar next to Insert, click on View. Headers should be placed before page numbers at the top right of the page.
