The deck includes 14 standard 51.5-m long spans with two 44 and 15-mend spans. Launched segments are25.75-m long, i.e. half a standardspan. The 3.7-m height of thesegments wasimposed by the use of incrementallaunching method to resist loads. The 32-m long launching nose wasbolted to the forward end of the boxgirder using bars. The bridge is constructed using acircular alignment (4,000 m planradius elevation R = 3,000 m), thatdemanded special attention duringthe precastingyard phase, thedesign of the formwork system andthe installation of thepost-tensioning. Acting as aspecialist contractor, VSL wasresponsible for the design andimplementation of the incrementalThe Agueda bridge crosses a valleywith an important agriculturepotential. It represents a vital
infrastructure for the region’s
economic development.Because of the depth of the valley tobe crossed, the main contractordecided to use the incrementallaunching construction method tobuild the superstructure. The deck is 856-m long and it is thefirst time in Portugal that this methodhas been used for the construction ofa long highway bridge.
