Your Park District is moving orward with eforts toward a sustainable uture inproviding the best parks, recreational acilities and programs. Staying within ourcurrent budget, our attention is ocused on protecting our natural resources, makingour acilities accessible or all abilities and meeting your park and recreational needs. The District has retrotted most Park District acilities with energy ecient lightingand is now researching the same or park lighting. The picnic pavilion at the new Sunset Ridge Park is powered by thesun and the Hessel Park tennis courts are manually controlled so that players push abutton to turn on the lights when they want to play at dusk.Additionally, rain gardens have been installed at Scott and Hallbeck Parks andapproximately 20 acres o prairie is being established at the new Robert C. PorterFamily Park as well as an another three acres o prairie at Heritage Park.We look orward to the ground breaking or the new Leonhard Recreation Centerthis all, which will provide much needed gym space, an indoor walking track andplayground along with multipurpose activity rooms. Also coming in the next ewweeks is the beginning o the largest restoration project yet on the Virginia Theatre, bringing us one step closer to completing this historical acility.Meanwhile join us in some new amily un events eatured in this brochure anddesigned to keep the whole amily t and active. Recreational programs ofer theopportunity or all ages to participate, learn social skills, make new riends, get t andlearn a new skill or hobby. From Anime classes to Zumba, the Park District ofers anexciting array o opportunities or you and your amily. We hope you enjoy our parks,acilities, trails and programs.
