It could be one of the biggest political intelligence coups of the 2012 battle to control Congress. Media Trackers, a conservative investigative watchdog group, discovered nearly three-dozen Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee opposition research notebooks – extensive secretive manuals outlining anything that could be used against a political opponent. Several news outlets have reported that some of the files have been quietly published on the DCCC’s website to facilitate their use by independent expenditure groups. On Thursday, however, Media Trackers published a dozen opposition research books that Democrats have so far managed to keep secret.

Editorials
Palm Beach Post Called out Florida Republicans
In July 2011, an editorial was written in the Palm Beach Post that called out Florida Republicans of theirconsideration of a short-term debt-ceiling deal.
The article explained that “House Republican leaders want a short
-term debt-limit increase that makes nosense. A six-month reprieve would set up the country for yet another showdown in the midst of bitterpartisan campaigns and spook bondholders and ratings agencies, risking a downgrade in U.S. debt thatwould increase the deficit as interest rates rose.In turn, a downgrade would trigger higher borrowing costs for consumers, snuffing out any hope of ahousing rebound and putting yet another drag on consumer spending. The ripples from there includestifled job creation, sagging stocks and retirement accounts, and, in the worst case, a return to recession.

Yet the debt talks have been so dysfunctional that there might be a downgrade anyway. And that's noteven the worst-case scenario, which would happen if Congress and the White House fail to avoid default aweek from today. At that point, even Social Security checks could stop.Despite the risks of a short-term deal, House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, on Monday advanced a two-stage plan that would raise the debt ceiling by about $1 trillion, instead of the $2.4 trillion necessary toavert an election-year clash, and set up a bipartisan commission to identify another $2 trillion in cuts to be
voted on later.” [Palm Beach Post,
Op-Ed Against West
In August 2011, Dana Milbank published an op-ed criticizing West.
According to Milbank, “West’s image is built on martial imagery; the student introducing him recounted
an episode in Iraq in which West fired his pistol near the head of a man he was interrogating. But by theend of the talk, West sounded less like an ideological warrior than a career politician explaining how
Republicans could build majorities.” [Washington Post,
Palm Beach Post: This idea doesn't hold water
In August 2011, the Palm Beach Post criticized the Clean Water Cooperative Federalism Act saying:
“Bashing the Environmental Protection Agency has bee
n a GOP theme since the party took control of theHouse this year. In July, the House approved a bill sponsored by Rep. John Mica, R-Winter Park, thatwould leave regulation of water quality to the states. Republican members of the Florida delegation, alongwith most state politicians, oppose the EPA's proposed standards for the state's rivers, lakes and streams -even though the Florida Department of Environmental Protection proposed essentially the same standardsin 2009. Given the rhetoric, it's hard to believe that protecting the environment once was a strongly
bipartisan issue […] Congress recognized that water and air pollution don't observe state lines, and put the
federal government in charge of stopping both. Reactionary revisionists who want to turn back the clock
ignore history and reality.” [Palm Beach Post, editorial,
Miami Herald: House attempt to gu
t EPA’s enforcement of clean
-water rules is dangerous
In July 2011, the Miami Herald penned an editorial criticizing legislation in the house to prevent the EPAfrom imposing stricter water quality standards on states.
According to the Miami Herald, “Cle
an water is not a jobs killer
 —
certainly not in Florida, which countson its beaches and natural assets to lure millions of tourists and billions of dollars here. Yet U.S. Reps.John Mica, an Orlando-area Republican, and Nick Rahall, a West Virginia Democrat, have sponsored a
bill that seeks to gut the Environmental Protection Agency’s ability to regulate water quality, wetlands protection and the removal of mountain tops in coal mining […] Clean water doesn’t have state
boundaries. The reason the EPA was created and the Clean Water Act was strengthened in 1972 was theconfusing patchwork of state-by-state water rules that allowed governors and legislatures to curry favor
with big industries in their states and permitted uses with disastrous consequences […
] The legislation,
HB 2018, is being hailed as a “state
-
federal partnership” that will help states create jobs. This is laughableif it weren’t so frightening […] Make no mistake. This legislation would hamstring the EPA fromoverruling any state’s vague w
ater-quality limits or ensuring dredge permits are feasible even when there
