Founded in 1911, the American Society of Safety Engineers formed following the t ragic Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire

in March of the same year. Infamous as Ne w York City's most devastating industrial disaster, the fire claimed the lives o f approximately 146 workers. The American Society of Safety Engineers has resolved to represent the health, s afety, and environmental professionals who keep employees safe and productive ac ross a wide range of industries. ASSE has made numerous contributions to the eng ineering profession through publications and research. The organization also pro vides a voice for SH&E professionals. Safety engineers focus on preventing accidents in engineered environments.
