Measuring CT accuracy classes as per IEC6044-1

As per IEC6044-1 (Instrument Transformer Current Transformer), the standard accuracy classes for measuring CTs are: 0.1, 0.2, 0.2S, 0.5, 0.5S, 1, 3, 5 The standard specifies the accuracy of classes 0.1, 0.2, 0.5 and 1 by giving the limiting values of the current error and phase displacement at rated frequency and the when the secondary connected burden is between 25 % and 100 % of the rated burden. The limiting errors are as given in the table below,

For accuracy classes 0.2S and 0.5S (which guarantees accuracy over a wider current range), the limits of current error and phase displacement at the rated frequency with the secondary connected burden between 25 % and 100 % of the rated burden is as given in the table below,

As can be seen from the above two tables, the 0.2S and 0.5S class CTs have error limits of 0.2% & 0.5% (respectively) from 20% to 120% of the rated current. However for 0.2 and 0.5 class CTs, the error limit of 0.2% and 0.5% (respectively) from 100 to 120% of rated current only.
