Similarities (maximum 5 marks) Both have a cell membrane surrounding the cell Both have cytoplasm Both contain a nucleus Both contain mitochondria Both contain endoplasmic reticulum Both contain ribosomes

Differences (maximum 5 marks) An animal cell has an irregular shape while a plant cell have regular shape An animal cell has no cell wall but a plant cell has a cellulose cell wall An animal cell has no chloroplasts but a plant cell has chloroplasts. The vacuoles in an animal cell are numerous and small while in a plant cell the vacuole is usually single, large and centrally positioned in the cell. In an animal cell, glycogen granules can be found while a plant cell contains starch granules as the stored food. In an animal cells there are centrioles but these are absent in plant cell.
