Sunil Punathil There are serial and parallel filters (Multiplexer/De-Multiplexer) to break out individual channels from a composite DWDM link. Serial filters is where wavelengths are first broken down to bands and then bands will be broken into individual. In parallel filtering, a few of the select individual channels will be filtered and rest of the waves will continue. With the ROADM technology based on MEMs, there's no need for serial or parallel filtering any more. I hope this answers your question.

Anoop Kumar Thanks for reply can you tell me what is " ROADM technology based on MEMs" as i understand in serial OADM we have to de-multiplex whole band of lambda and again we have to Multiplex at same OADM point .where as in Parallel OADM particular Lambda is drooped rest we can pass through Software or hardware patching .

Vipul Panchal in ROADM technology with the help of WSS (Wavelength selector switch) u can choose ur desired wavelength & rest will be pass thru to next destination..so don't need of parallel & serial OADM Configuration. witth ROADM we need not to change any hardware for reconfiguration of channels...that can be done by software.

Build Web Apps 10X Faster Purushotham Mangalapelly A reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexer (ROADM) is a form of optical add-drop multiplexer that adds the ability to remotely switch traffic from a DWDM system at the wavelength layer. This is achieved through the use of a Wavelength selective switching module. This allows individual or multiple wavelengths carrying data channels to be added and/or dropped from a transport fiber without the need to convert the signals on all of the WDM channels to electronic signals and back again to optical signals. The main advantages of the ROADM are: 1.The planning of entire bandwidth assignment need not be carried out during initial deployment of a system. The configuration can be done as and when required without affecting traffic already passing the ROADM. 2.ROADM allows for remote configuration and reconfiguration. 3.In ROADM, as it is not clear beforehand where a signal can be potentially routed, there is a necessity of power balancing of these signals. ROADMs allow for automatic power balancing.

Vikas Sharma Hi Purushotham, All points are very much correct listed for a ROADM node, but I would like to add that in last statement, Automatic power balancing is a system feature and can also be implemented within Fixed OADM structures also.
