Several software vendors have attempted to develop and market "generic" financial expert system (GFES) products for multiple users across organizations. This case study examines the characteristics of GFES and related adoption problems. The results show that the system's problems, particularly limited explanation capability and lack of compatibility and modifiability, are too serious to overcome.
